Charles Wade’s Spectacular Interception on Duval’s Game of the Week!

This was a unique week on the first coast as many teams matched up with one another in key district battles. With so many great games on tap for this weekend it would be wrong not to feature all of them. So here we go…

Trinity at Episcopal

If we said one team came into this contest undefeated you’d of thought it was Trinity. Well in fact it was Episcopal who came into the game unblemished at 5-0.  The Eagles rode a winning streak that’s featured some impressive wins. But none of those teams were as impressive a the Conquerors. At one point Trinity scored 39 unanswered points to claim victory 49-10. They physically over powered and out ran Episcopal in all phases of the game. This district battle wasn’t even close, and chances are the district title race won’t be close either. But both teams still need to play Providence so anything is possible with district 3A-1.

Ribault at Bishop Kenny

This contest was much closer than the final score indicated. Knotted at 7-6 in the 4th quarter, Bishop Kenny took the lead on a running play up the middle. The very next possession Ribault attempted to throw a WR quick screen, but #9 Charles Wade of Kenny made an  incredible one handed interception. Wade raced 35yds for the TD ultimately sealing the fate for the Trojans. Final Score 20-7 Kenny.

This was a defensive game most of the way displaying great efforts from both squads. However with the loss, Ribault falls further behind Kenny in the district battle. While the Crusaders are tied with Westside High for the district lead at 2-0. As for the Wake Forest commit, Wade’s  video has caught fire on the internet, and you saw it first right here on DuvalSports.com!

Duval Charter at University Christian

Duval Charter (DC) bought a large crowd down University Blvd to face the Christian of U.C. THe atmosphere was tense and thick like the bud that gripped the field. Leading 12-7 at the start of the 4th quarter, University Christian stalled after crossing mid field thanks to the DC defense.  But the DC offense couldn’t put anything together courtesy of the UC defense. They pressured the QB all night and forced him into making ill advised throws. But even with the stifling  defense Duval Charter still had a chance at the end. They had to drive 97 yards for a TD because a FG wouldn’t win it. But DC’s quarterback was intercepted throwing out of his own end-zone ultimately giving  U.C the victory. The Christian’s showed that they arn’t defeated yet with the win 20-7. And the Panthers can build alot from their only loss of the season.

Lee at Englewood

The Generals came into the contest undefeated and one of the surprises of the 2014 year so far. Well, it was no surprise to us from Duval Sports as we knew the Generals were excited about the upcoming year. (Optimism in the Air )

But they came into the game facing a Englewood team that knew they were better than their record. After facing Columbia, Ed White, and Atlantic Coast three of the last four weeks, Coach Marcus Miller knew they just had a tough schedule. ”

Lee would be included in this tough schedule but the Rams were ready for them, jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. After this the Rams defense would take control holding Lee scoreless in the first half.  The Generals were actually the team that came into the contest with a very good defense,  holing its opponents to less than a TD a game. But on this night they couldn’t contain Englewood as the Rams won 20-7. It doesn’t get any easier for Lee as they face Orange Park next week. Englewood will visit Middleburg .
