Middle School Player of the Week

Myles Montgomery

There is an athlete at the beach that has the attention of the middle school football world and his name is Myles Montgomery. Myles plays runningback for Mayport Middle and has put  the entire team on his back. He carries the load for the team on offense as the ball goes through him to make plays, and indeed he has made them. His first game this year versus Dupont,  Montgomery rushed for over 100 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. However Myles was not selected as player of the week for his performance. Ironically his opponent Dupont’s Jacobi Myers was.  Yet that didn’t stop Myles from working hard. All he did the very next game was rush for over 200 yards and score 4 touchdowns. We made sure we honored for his efforts this time.

Myles is a great kid who loves sports but loves life. He is a native of the beach area and attends church there as well. In fact,  members of his church family came to the show to see him get honored. He comes from a proud family that supports his efforts on the field and in the classroom. It’s something every athlete should have the opportunity to be afforded. Myles doesn’t take it for granted either. He is humble and works hard every time he steps on the field. The very next week after he was honored as our Duval Sports player of the week, he went out and scored 4 touchdowns, rushing for nearly 200 yards in the game.

Myles continues to run for “miles”… He’s like the energizer buny, keeps going and going and going.

Congratulations Myles Montgomery our Middle School Player of the Week.

High School Player of the Week

Jaylen McCloud

It was the game of the week in our area, I mean everyone was there. The anticipation was high and the atmosphere was thick with emotion. It’s one of those games where you just knew something special was going to happen, and for running back Jaylen McCloud that special something happened to him. “Be ready” his coach told him before the game.  His team, the Bolles Bulldogs faced off against the Miami Jackson Generals, a squad that just a few weeks earlier upset the number #1 team in the state Booker T. Washington. So McCloud knew his team would have to be ready. Little did he know that the he would be in for a career night.

As “Jaylen McCloud on the carry” rang over the loud speaker time and time again, everyone in attendance began to recognize who the Bulldog’s go to guy was on the night. But for McCloud, he was still the last to realize it. “When they kept calling my number in the huddle I was surprised. I didn’t think they would continue to dial up my plays but they did.” When it was all said and done, McCloud finally realized why his coach told him to be ready. He had rushed for a career best 201 yards on 32 carries and 3 touchdowns as Bolles won emphatically 44-14.

It’s that special moment every youth football player dreams of when their running up and down the sidelines. To one day rush for a career high in yards and touchdowns in front of a capacity crowd. And Jaylen knows all to well what that experience feels like. He played locally here in Jacksonville for the Mandarin Athletic Association. He is pictured below with childhood friend and current teammate Mac Jones.

The 6 foot 200 pound McCloud has certainly filled out nicely since his youth football days. He has great size and power, but compliments it all with quickness. This combination was to much for Miami Jackson to handle. It’s that versatility to his game that has helped Bolles stay undefeated this year, and hopefully has gained the attention of college scouts around the nation. He has certainly made his family very proud. His mother Dana Surrency is his biggest fan, even thugh there is a big list of fans behind her that love Jaylen!

We at Duval Sports love Jaylen too! I mean what’s not to love about him? He’s smart, hard working, dedicated and extremely gracious. A perfect fit for our High School Player of the Week! Congratulations
