Fletcher Rolls To The Championship Game

Fletcher Middle defeated Stilwell Middle 36-0 to advance to the Duval County Middle School Championship Game. Fletcher dominated both sides of the ball with speed, power, and execution leading to the shutout of Stilwell.

Fletcher began the evening on offense and took just five plays to score. The offense drove 70 yards and scored on a dive play up the middle . The two point conversion was good and the score was 8-0 just minutes into the contest.IMG_4039 (800x533)

Stilwell would begin on their own 35 yard line and put together a very nice drive. It was a great mixture of running and passing on the drive, showcasing #7 Michael Francois. Coach Campbell would make the perfect call to take advantage of the aggressive Fletcher defense, dialing up a bootleg with his Quarterback #11. But a holding call on the play nullified the touchdown and Fletcher would stop Stilwell on four downs. It was Stilwell’s best opportunity to surprise Fletcher, and it was wasted in a critical change of possession.

On Fletcher’s next drive, they would resume where they left off mix a mix of runs up the middle and to the outside. IMG_4046 (800x533)As the start of the second quarter began Fletcher had the ball near mid field, when Adrian Chavers #11 took it 60 yards for the second touchdown run of the game. The Stilwell offense failed to do anything with the next possession giving the ball back to Fletcher.

At this point, Head Coach McCauslin unleashed his work horse Cedric Woodson. Woodson took the run off tackle and raced around the edge for a 45 yar touchdown to make it 24-0. Stilwell would drive to the one yard line of Fletcher but was unable to punch it in as the half expired.

In the second half the Fletcher defense clamped down even more on the Patriots, stopping them on several drives. Jacob Zetrouer linebacker #45 gained an interception stopping one of the drives and #54 Bosco and #34 Wood made plays on a very stout defense. Woodson sealed the edge on defense punishing Stilwell ball carriers that attempted to hit the edge. But Woodson would seal the win on the offensive side of the ball. The most electrifying running back in middle school football touched the ball twice in consecutive series. The first touch he took 50 yards for the touchdown. The second touch he went “zero to a hundred real quick” as he jetted 85 yards for his third touchdown of the game.

Stilwell played valiantly and it may have been the best their offense has executed all year. But they ran into a team on a mission tonight in Fletcher. Still it was a great season for them as they prepare for the third place game next week.

With Fletcher’s win they continue on a magical season that has them 8-0 and one more game from a Championship. They get a shot to return to the game that slipped away from them last year. This year they look to take a firm grip as they roll into the edge of history.
