Game Time: Pop Warner Playoffs

Thursday Oct 23rd

Junior Midget Div II

Oceanway Blue vs Arlington

This was a rematch of the game played just a week prior at Arlington but this time the Bucs hosted the playoff game. But unfortunately for Arlington the result was the same. Oceanway dominated time of possession and capitalized on turnovers to route the Seminoles 31-6 . Now its time to see what the Bucs are truly made of as they challenge the Creeks Outlaws for the second time this season.

CFL Outlaws Gold vs Pablo Creek Saints

The Saints were happy to make it to the dance, unfortunately the Creeks Gold Outlaws wern’t playing their song. A 33-0 romp Thursday night inched the Outlaws one game closer to another championship.

The youth football playoffs are officially here with Pop Warner holding their opening games tonight at Sheffield Park. There were four contest tonight featuring eight teams. The lone Pee Wee game saw the Ocean Way Blue Bucs take on West Duval. While the three others showcased Junior Pee Wee action ( Sweet Water vs Oceanway Blue ; Pablo Creek vs Lake Shore White; and Arlington vs Scott Park) .

The Pee Wee contest featured two teams that were very familiar with each other. Oceanway defeated West Duval during the regular season, and felt confident going into the game that they would do the same. West Duval looked to catch the Bucs underestimating them and gain an advantage early. The game started slow as the teams looked to settle early playoff jitters. But by the second half, a 6-0 score turned into a 30-6 score as Oceanway pulled away and dominated the contest. With the win, Oceanway advances to face Creeks Gold for the city Championship.

#2. Pablo Creek and #3. Lake Shore White would  face off to see who advances to the second round. Again two teams seemingly heading in opposite directions as Pablo Creek came in at 6-2 scoring almost three TDs a game, while Lake Shore averaged just one TD a game. Yet it was evident early that Lake Shore was not going to get marched on by the saints. The first half was filled with strong defenses as both teams stuffed each other’s running games. It was 0-0 halftime score and deep into the second half when Pablo Creek capitalized on Lake Shore turnovers and scored. After the score, Lake Shore was unable to answer on offense and the Saints added one more TD to win the game 13-0. Pablo Creek would face the winner of our last game, Arlington vs Scott Park.

Scott Park came into the contest undefeated and confident that they would do what they had done all year out match teams with their athleticism. But Arlington had other plans. The Seminoles record didn’t indicate what they were capable of doing one the field at 4-4 so the scene was set for a good one. Scott Park went to work early scoring in the first quarter 6-0. But Arlington responded, as they drove down the field capped off by a spectacular run by RB Arthur Walker .

Walker or “Fats” as they affectionately call him, runs hard like one of his favorite NFL star running backs Marshawn Lynch. Walker again would have another amazing play as he caught a punt in stride and raced down the left sideline for the go ahead score.

Scott Park mounted a comeback scoring on a short TD run closing the gap to 1 point. The score would remain 13-12 deep into the 4th as Scott Park had the ball on Arlington’s five yard line. Two costly penalties backed them up to the 15 yd line , but the Gators still had many opportunities. On 2nd and goal the ball sailed just out of the reach of an open receiver in the end zone. The next play was a quick pop pass that was dropped by the TE at the goal line. On 4th down the Gators went to their big time WR #12 but he was jammed at the line of scrimmage and was unable to catch up with the fade to the end zone. The game ended on a controversial call, but there was no debating the efforts of both teams. Arlington will play Pablo Creek next. A game they feel very confident about after handing the Saints their first loss of the season.
