Gateway Track & Field Championship Blog

The Gateway Conference Championships in Track & Field were held at Atlantic Coast High School Tuesday Evening. There were many great performances and exciting races! Here’s a few highlights from the Track Meet!

The Raines Vikings came into the meet riding high and confident after their showing in Orlando last week. Coach Steven Bellamy and the rest of the Vikings staff have put in tireless work all season. Bellamy said of his team, “my parents are the best in the state of Florida. We are a young team but we are not afraid to compete against anyone. I love that about our kids. This is a rebuilding year but we are enjoying the process. Excited about the future. Looks great.” As another Vikings coach put it after the Boys 4X1 Relay win.. ” we’ve come a long way since the beginning but it’s all paid off”. The Vikings Boys became Gateway Conference Champions for the second year in a row.  Congratulations to the entire team and staff of coaches.

Congratulations to the Girls Atlantic Coast Track & Field team, winners of the 2015 Gateway Conference Championship. The Stingrays performance was breathtaking as they put on a performance for their home crowd. For Coach Marcellus Holmes this was the culmination of hard work and dedication all season. “I’m very proud of these athletes, they have come a very long way”. The Coaches at Atlantic Coast have much to be proud of indeed. They placed third in the country at the Bob Hayes Track Invitational earlier this month, and senior Chelsea Francis is one of the highest ranked sprinters in the State. Coach Priscilla Cato of the Prime Time Youth Track & Field Club recalls Francis as a freshman. “To think that when she started she could barely run (Priscilla illustrating a prancing runner with arms flailing), but look at her now”. Francis attributes her success to her off season training program, something that all young athletes should participate in to stay in shape.

If you’ve followed us on twitter you know that we are big fans of the Paxon Track & Field Teams. Thanks in part to their incredible support from their coaches and fans.

But the Golden Eagle teams are more than just hype and fanfare, they are talented and hardworking athletes making up some of the finest athletes in the country. Cedrina Singletary won the 100M and competed in the 200M and 400M. She placed 5th in the 100M at the Bob Hayes Invitational. ” I’m going to miss competing in High School, but I’m getting ready for the next level”. Singletary speaking on her last Gateway Conference track meet has committed to Eastern Carolina University.
