Grandpark and Lakeshore High After Pee Wee Division Wins

Last year the Pee Wee division in Pop Warner gave us the national champions Sweetwater Hawks. This year the division is super competitive as teams attempt to duplicate what the Hawks did a year ago.  Early on, there are two teams that showed extreme promise, as units that will vie for a city championship. And quite possibly could push for a chance to pay in Orlando as the Super Bowl.

Lake Shore 29 vs Forestview 6

Forestview came into this season losing a lot of talent that led them to their Junior pee wee national championship runner up in 2015 and a pee wee city championship runner up in 2016. Yet they are still a competitive team that is well coached and looked forward to starting the season off right. What they didn’t expect was an upstart Lake Shore team that was hungry and ready to make a statement. And a statement is exactly what they made. Quarterbacks Nathan Newman and Marcus Samuels led the Raider offense to the tune of 28 points in week 1. They were able to make plays and get the ball into the hands of their playmakers like Tavales Thomas and Mark Miller which were just too much for the Steelers. Jon Dantzler is another prime time player for Lake Shore that led a Raider defense that only gave up 6 points in their opener. It was an impressive win for Lake Shore as they grabbed a lot of attention around the city moving to 1-0 on the season. Forestview looks to rebound against West Duval (0-1). While Lake Shore will take on Westside.

Grandpark 18 Westside 0

Westside took a tough “L” in their first contest to a team that looks like they may be the real deal. The Grandpark Vikings pulled away from Westside late in the second half thanks to incredible plays on defense. After going ahead 6-0 thanks to a touchdown run by # 7 Tomas Smith, the Vikings led by just a single touchdown in the 3rd quarter. Smith would put the team on his shoulders and race 65 yards for a Vikings touchdown putting them up 12-0. Smith was joined by teammates #2 Jha’mari Harvell, and #1 Aaron Mincey who both secured interceptions in the game. A pick 6 would seal the shutout as Grandpark put an early stamp on the Pee Wee division in Pop Warner. Grandpark 18 Westside 0. Grandpark takes on Jackson County next.
