Football High School Playoffs

The second round of the FHAA Playoffs began Friday Night with lots of action packed games in North East Florida. Here’s a run down of some of the other playoff  action this weekend.

North Florida Christian-44 vs University Christian- 27

The Christian’s quest for two state titles in four years ended at the hands of North Florida Christian for the second year in a row. U.C came into the contest scoring almost ten points per game more than NFC.But North Florida’s defense keep the Christians at bay for most of the second half. Congratulations to the players, Coach Penland and his staff for a successful season ending at 8-4. North Florida Christian will face Victory Christian in a rematch of last year’s regional finals.

St. Augustine-14 vs Ed White -26

Ed White hosted their second straight playoff game at home, and Coach Paul Pierson knew his team had something to prove. After an early exit last year,  Pierson emphasized how his teams focus was to advance in the playoffs  this year. They did just that on Friday versus a very good St. Augustine Yellow Jacket team. Ed White advances to face Choctawhatchee from  Ft Walton Beach next Friday in the regional finals.

  Bishop Kenny-34  vs Clay-26

This one may have not received the same hype has the others, but the playoff between Kenny and Clay was one of the more exciting ones in the playoffs.

Bishop Kenny jumped out to an early lead, but the Blue Devils mounted a furious comeback to get within a touchdown and two point conversion from tying. The Crusaders hald on to the win and will face Tallahassee Godby next week.

Fletcher-14 vs Oakleaf-28

If you thought Fletcher saved some of their good stuff the first time they played Oakleaf because they knew they’d probably face them in the playoffs, then you were sadly mistaken. Oakleaf (12-0) controlled the entire game versus Fletcher, a team over matched and over powered by the Knights.  Fletcher’s quest to make it to the State Finals came two rounds short as they couldn’t make it out of the quarterfinals. Congratulations to Flecther for a great season and another trip to the playoffs. “Oakleaf strong ” has a nice ring to it.  They’ll need every ounce of strength as they  advances to face Niceville in the 7A regional finals next week.

Trinity Christian-10  vs Trinity Catholic-20

This was the best team we’ve played all year

-Coach Dorminey of Trinity Christian

While everyone in the area featured Bolles and Raines as their game of the week, Duval Sports knew that Trinity Catholic would give Trinity Christian their toughest test. Trinity Catholic . Both teams scored in the first quarter making it 7-7 after the Conqueror’s Rasheed Martin’s 5-yard run and the Celtic’s Jordan Woods 16yd run to set up Marquis Hendrix for the touch down.

Trinity Christian’s Billy Cobb passed to teammate Shaun Wade to make it 14-10 in the 3rd and that’s all they would need from their offense.

The Christian’s defense shut the Celtics down in the second half. And on a last ditch effort for a hail marry, Trinity Christian’s Chris Barr intercepted the pass and ran it back for the TD!  With the win, Trinity advances to face Lakeland Christian in the 3A regional final.
