2015 Year In Review: Paxon Defeats Choctaw To Advance To State Finals!!

Febuary 14th, 2015

Paxon High School played host to the Girls Basketball Class 5A Regional Finals tonight, as their Lady Golden Eagles squared off against the Choctaw Indians. Choctaw defeated Mosley to advance to this game, while Paxon advanced by beating Palatka.

Choctaw’s Nadia Fingall came into the contest scoring 22 points a game, and she didn’t miss a beat in the beginning of this game. Fingall scored from deep in the paint as she created a mismatch for the smaller Paxon team. Fingall 2-14-15 016finished the first half with 14 points. Paxon began the game red hot, thanks to Jha’Nae Wheeler hitting from the outside and guard Arianna Emanuel-Wright’s hustle. But it was a team effort in the first half as Paxon led 23-18. One thing that has separated the elite Girls Basketball teams here in Northeast Florida has been the coaching, and Paxon’s Evan Jefferson falls into that category. It was dejavu for basketball fans who watched coach Shelia Pennick turn up the heat last night in the second half, as Ribault clamped down in the 3rd quarter. Jefferson deployed a similar tactic strategically calling plays to harass the Indians back court. This strategy worked, as Paxon increased their halftime lead to 14 points after three quarters of play. Paxon closed the deal in the 4th period as Rayven Wade scored on a break away and Jillian West stole the ball as Paxon began to celebrate their victory.

Final Score: Paxon -59 vs Choctaw-43
