Raines Runs Past Lee in the 4th!

With 3:40 left on the clock in the fourth quarter and trailing by two points, Raine’s Ivory Durham IV dropped back and threw a beautiful spiral deep to his right hitting George Webb in stride as he raced 60 yards for the go ahead touchdown that lifted the Vikings to a 32-28 victory over the Lee Generals Friday night.

Lee came into the week one regular season game riding lots of preseason hype after their performances against Trinity and Bolles in two exhibitions. Yet there were many still waiting to see if Lee was legit when the games actually counted, and for four and a half quarters they proved they were.
Raines would strike first however with a 1 yard touchdown run by Brandon Marshall. The extra point was no good, and Raines led 6-0.

Lee would respond, driving right down the field using the legs of Cam Wakefield. He would end the drive with a six yard touchdown run tying the game at 6. The extra point was good and Lee led 7-6. Cameron was far from done on the evening. He powered the General offense rushing for nearly 200 yards. His most spectacular play set a school record for the longest run from scrimmage, a 99 yard touchdown run in which he outraced the entire Vikings secondary.

The game was filled with lots of offensive plays as neither defense could stop the opposing offense.

The offense was fast pace and intense throughout; Lee led by Jones and Raines their QB Durham. Unofficially, Durham accounted for 405 yards passing, and 3 TDs. Not until an unknown disturbance in the crowd that sent students running from the concession area did the action seem to pause.

When play resumed Raines gained momentum and began their comeback with big plays. Only in the redzone did both defenses become stingy. Lee would thwart a Raines offensive scoring opportunity in the contest early in the game and Raines would seal their victory with a interception in the endzone off a tipped pass.

The loss was a tough blow to the always competitive O.J Smalls. He shared his thoughts with us after the game.

Raines was lifted by the spirited home crowd and the dynamic play of their speedy playmakers. They showed tonight that they have the potential to score at will. They scored two touchdowns in two minutes to win the game.
