The major shift in Northeast Florida occurred in the summer of 2023, when All Conference offensive tackle Deryc Plazz transferred from Jackson to Mandarin. The 6’4, 289lb lineman is honestly the nastiest trenches player in the entire area. He attacks defenders, and finishes blocks till the whistle. He had an astounding 61 pancake blocks, and only yielded 1 sack his junior season. His senior season at Mandarin saw him punish defenders in the run game all the way to state championship game. He accumulated 47 pancake blocks, helping Mandarin rush for over 3,000 yards and protecting a 3,000 yard passer. He’s extremely athletic as well, turning many heads at camps.
