Game of the Week: Bucs make Vikings walk the plank!! 62-7

The Buccaneers of First Coast jumped out early and never looked back as they defeated the Raines Vikings Friday night, 62-7.  The only time this game was close was when Raines got off the bus to warm up. From the moment the whistle blew, First Coast went to work. Scoring on four TD passes in the first Quarter. QB Deandre Johnson made it rain from every IMG_2506angle on the field, while his receivers caught everything. The Bucs defense was just as good, stifling Raines on all but one drive in the first half. Their dominance continued in a second half that was still all First Coast.

The Saturday morning Quarterback question for Coach Wiley of the Vikings is why attempt to keep pace with First Coast through the air? Conventional wisdom might’ve suggested Raines run the ball to slow down the game, and keep the ball out of the Buccaneers playmaker’s hands on offense. Instead, Raines aired it out and were intercepted on several of their possessions, including a momentum shifter early in the first quarter.

This was a tale of two teams. Raines looked hard to beat against Ed White and Northwestern, while First Coast struggled with Fletcher last week. But this week, it was First Coast that looked impressive, and Raines that struggled mightily. Perhaps Raines was looking ahead to Bolles, a district foe next week? Whatever the case maybe, Raines clearly did not come to play tonight. The score didn’t even reflect the true lopsidedness of the game, as the officials instituted a running clock for the entire second half.

Coach Marty Lee had his team well prepared for this match up. When First Coast plays like they did Friday Night, no one can beat them.Atlantic Coast will try in two weeks.
