Episcopal put a crooked number on the board early, and pitcher <strong>Maddi Latta<\/strong> \u2013 a top-notch hurler in the Jacksonville area \u2013 held the Conquerors to two runs as the Eagles won 6-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Softball hosts <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AthleticsTca?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@AthleticsTca<\/a> today at Marchman Field! She got out of\njam in the first after Trinity got two-out hits from <strong>Mackenzie Marrel<\/strong>l and <strong>Amaya\nRoss<\/strong>. She also shook off lead-off hits from Ross that turned into runs on\nRBI singles from pitching counterpart Bailey Cooley (2-3, 2 RBI) but did not\nallow Trinity anything more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latta also swung a hot bat, going 3 for 4 with a double and\n3 RBI as she drove in a run with each hit. Shortstop and lead-off hitter <strong>Kami Eppley<\/strong> also had three hits and\nscored three times for the Eagles. Eppley led off three innings with hits and\nturned two of those into runs. She also scored in the sixth after reaching on a\nfielder\u2019s choice. Episcopal got the lead-off hitter on base in all six team at\nbats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.duvalsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_20190404_195740-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-41366\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Episcopal scored one in the bottom of the first and three\nmore in the second. In that second inning, Eppley drove in <strong>Jaclyn Conner<\/strong> (who singled), and Latta and <strong>Grace Jones<\/strong> each followed with RBI singles. Jones also drove in the\nEagles\u2019 first run an inning earlier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trinity got single runs in the fourth and sixth thanks to\nthe Ross-Cooley combination, but Latta\u2019s two run-scoring hits in the fourth and\nsixth gave those runs right back to the Eagles. Trinity\u2019s Amaya Ross was 3 for\n3 while <strong>Alexis Ross<\/strong> walked, singled,\nand stole three bases and <strong>Breezy\nBurnette<\/strong> had a single, a double, and a stolen base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.duvalsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_20190404_195358-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"41368\" data-link=\"https:\/\/www.duvalsports.com\/?attachment_id=41368\" class=\"wp-image-41368\"\/><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.duvalsports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_20190404_201109-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"41369\" data-link=\"https:\/\/www.duvalsports.com\/?attachment_id=41369\" class=\"wp-image-41369\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Cooley (L: 8-5, 2.84) allowed five runs (three earned) on\neight hits while walking one and striking out four in 3 1\/3 innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Episcopal (7-3, 3-0 in district) claims first place over\nTrinity (11-5, 2-1) as the season heads into its final three weeks. Episcopal\nwill next play a district game at Providence at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April\n11.
