Three Fields, Two Teams, One Champion; Patriot Oaks Defeats Liberty Pines

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — After electrical problems at Creekside High School, the Patriot Oak Chargers and Liberty Pines Wolves moved to Plantation Park to play out their SJMSAA championship game. After finally relocating from the grass field to the turf field and making sure the lighting was stable, the game was underway and saw the Chargers come out on top 32-14.

The Chargers came out the gate charged up and ready to go by scoring 18 first quarter points versus the Wolves 8. Luke Millinor ran in for a touchdown to put the Chargers up 6-0 early on.

Niko Weis and the Wolves answered quickly with a touchdown and 2 point conversion to put the Wolves in front 8-6. But they didn’t hold the lead for long. The Chargers answered with 12 more first quarter points to bring the score to 18-8.

The second quarter saw the defense from both sides come alive. Both teams struggled to score until 30 seconds were left in the half. The Chargers struck first when they found Caden Worbington wide open in the end zone. This increased the Chargers lead 25-8. Then Weis struck again for the Wolves to bring the score 25-14 to end the first half.

Almost halfway through the third quarter Sean Ashenfelder scored his second touchdown of the night for the Chargers and brought the score to 32-14. Which would end up being the final score.

Camden Bowers had 2 interceptions that sparked the Chargers defense in the third and carried over into the fourth.

The great team effort by the Patriot Oak Chargers led to them winning their first middle school football championship in school history.
