Spruce Creek Over Powers Sandalwood in Thursday Jamboree

Sandalwood HS- It was a good ole fashioned matchup between power and finesse when Spruce Creek traveled up I-95 to face Sandalwood Thursday night. The Hawks who showcased 6’6 ,350lb Jayson Edwards #77 and 6’5 , 315 lb Colin King #55 on their offensive lines, showed early on why their power approach would be successful on the evening.

2023 Quarterback Damarcus Creecy led his team down the field culminating a drive with a roll out pass and touchdown for Spruce Creek putting them up early 7-0.

Sandalwood would respond however, and would do so in big play fashion. Just as Terry Parker had done in the half of football prior, Sandalwood would exploit the Spruce Creek secondary with their wide receivers. Quarterback Chris Calhoun ( UConn Commit) would drop back and hit wide receiver Khalil Ward for a 70-yrad bomb in stride for a touchdown.

Later in the half, Spruce Creek would control the clock, the tempo with their running game and eventual make a big play to capitalize for scores. Damarcus Creecy would toss up a jump ball for his receiver Minkler who would come down with it deep in Saints territory.

The Hawks would bulldoze their way into the endzone on the next play to go up 14-7.

After big defensive stops by Spruce Creek, Sandalwood was unable to convert on 4th down. Spruce Creek would drive down the field controlling the clock with their offensive line and would eventually get into the end-zone on a short pass to seal the victory.

Sandalwood measured themselves up against two very good opponents on the evening. They were undersized compared to Spruce Creek as the Hawks dominated in the trenches, however they were much more athletic in the passing game.

Sandalwood would score early against Terry Parker as many of the starters sat out the final quarter between Parker and Sandalwood. The Saints would get that victory, 7-0.
