Ribault Dominates With Defense Over First Coast In Kickoff Classic

First Coast HS- It wasn’t a lot that First Coast could do on Friday to generate much offense for their team. That’s because Ribault’s defense shut down mostly everything from the run to the pass Friday night leaving the Bucs looking for answers.

Was the answer quarterback Larry Edwards Jr, a pre season top prep sports athlete that is heading into his senior year? Was the answer Van Adams Jr, or Devin Hopkins, two number one receivers looking to have great senior campaigns?

Unfortunately for First Coast, they weren’t the answer for their offense on the early season. Instead, it was Ribault’s offensive line led by left tackle Deshun Jones who opened holes for Ribault running backs. Jamari Williams led the rushing committee for the Trojans, moving the chains and scoring a touchdown.

Ribault would add a field goal as Quarterback Nic Jones led them on the scoring drive to put them up 10-0. Linebacker Breon Jordan of Ribault patrolled the middle and made lots of tackles for the defense. It was one of the key reasons why they stifled First Coast early on to the tune of 0 points. Ribault’s Andre King would intercept a pass and looked really good in coverage coming up and making plays on the football.

Yet, First Coast would finally open things up giving a glimpse of what could be this year. Edwards would hook up with Hopkins for a touchdown late in the game as First coast found something optimistic and positive to work towards this week.

The Bucs welcome Dakota Ridge (Littleton Colorado). Dakota went 7-1 last year on their way to the state playoffs in Colorado. First Coast will need to shore up their offensive line and execute on offense to exploit a Dakota Ridge defense that’s not used to stopping big passing games. Ridge average 200yds rushing a game and outscored opponents 398-86 last year.

Ribault takes on Creekside who fell to Fletcher in their kickoff classic. The Trojans hope to build on their defensive effort, as they attempt to stop top rusher Preston Strope of Creekside. Strope rushed for 148 and 4 touchdowns last year versus the Trojans. Creekside looks to get a handle on athletic quarterback Nic Jones. They struggled with Fletcher’s mobile quarterbacks this week.
