Spring Bling: Bookends Holding It Down For Atlantic Coast

We continue our Spring Bling in 2022 as teams begin their pursuit of fall championship rings by tackling spring football. Our next stop is Atlantic Coast High School where under Head Coach Mike Montemayor, the Stingrays have made two consecutive playoff appearances.

The Stingrays have lost several seniors this year who led them on both sides of the ball. Yet, there are a young group of players looking to make their mark on the team, and in Northeast Florida high school football. Two player in particular that the team will undoubtedly count on are the 6 foot 2 bookends DE/LB Shaku Sangarie and DE/LB Camden Hardy. They have the ability to make plays and cause havoc for a defense that seems to be leading the way for the team.

Key Returning Players:

DE/LB Shaku Sangarie, 6’2, 202lbs- 2023

The rising senior has all the intangibles college coaches love at the next level. He’s tall, with good size, athletic and quick. He also possesses good power at the point of attack when engaged with blockers. He’s a leader on the team and is an extremely smart football player. Sangarie has the ability to take his game to another level and showcase his talent this spring.

DE/LB Camden Hardy, 6’2, 210lbs -2024

Hardy is big, long and athletic athlete who is certain to grow even bigger before he graduates. The rising junior has been working to improve his game to become an all around complete player, using his hips, hands and quickness to overwhelm opponents along with his size and strength. Hardy has the football bloodline already as his father is a former NFL player with the Jacksonville Jaguars (Kevin Hardy). His brother Langston Hardy (2022) signed to play football at UCONN. Camden has already received his first offer from UCONN as well.

OL- Marcello Coleman, 6’4, 305lbs- 2023

OL/DL Marcello Coleman

Coleman is a big and physical lineman who uses brute strength to move defenders. He’s the leader of the team and is looking to step up big in the trenches for Atlantic Coast. He is also quick off the ball engaging with opponents. Coleman has already caught the eyes of college recruiters as he recently picked up an offer from Navy.

Carter Ladd and Marcello Coleman

TE/DE- Carter Ladd, 6’4, 235lbs-2024

Ladd comes back over to Atlantic Coast after spending a season at Episcopal last year. Gaining playoff experience was one intangible that was added to his game and has fueled his hunger to be an even better player this year. Ladd has impressive size at 6’4 and has a rock solid frame at 235 pounds. He’s a versatile athlete with good hands and will be a key contributor. He will catch the eye of college recruiters this spring.

It’s a young group of players that these key returners are charged with helping to get up to speed with the knowledge and physicality of the game. Coach Montemayor knows the important of education on the field. He has daily film sessions with the team and is constantly stressing the importance of getting better each day through film study and competition. Said Montemayor, ”Spring ball is all about slowing things down & focusing on base install and/or fundamentals; it’s really just learning vocabulary terms for Offense/Defense. Coaches have done a great job of having a daily focus for offensive & defensive concepts so the kids won’t feel overwhelmed with trying to learning everything at once. Kids have taken the same approach in regards to learning that concept of the day in order to continuously build into the next day”.

He and his coaching staff hope to develop their young players this spring and show them their progress leading into the summer workouts.

Atlantic Coast face Jackson at Jackson on May 25th for their Spring Football Game
