Ridgeview sweeps its way into second place in district

ORANGE PARK – Ridgeview took huge steps securing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming District 4-1A flag football tournament with wins over Ed White 26-12, Bradford 34-6 and arch-rival Orange Park 35-34 last week all at home.

Ridgeview 26, Ed White 12

First quarter was a slow but the action picked up in the second quarter as Kat Anderson scored and Destiny Alston added the extra point to give Ridgeview a 7-0 lead.

Ed White quarterback Alexis Evans kept her team together as they fought through to cut the lead to 7-6 at the half.

Trinity Gilford scored with the help of Chereece McEwan to put the Panthers up 14-6 with 1:17 left in the third quarter.

However, the Commanders came fighting back with a score to cut the lead to 14-12 with .36 seconds left in the third.

Quarterback Brittany Sutton came off the field with an injury but was right back in for a couple more plays driving the Panthers back down the field.

Destiny Alston scored giving the Panthers some breathing room with a 20-12 lead.

At the two minute warning, the Panthers struck again as Gilford found her way into the end zone for a score putting the Panthers ahead 26-12.

Ridgeview 35, Orange Park 34 (OT)

For the first time in five attempts, Ridgeview finally beat arch-rival Orange Park, all be it a wild one.

Jaycee Ackerman scored a lot of touchdowns for the Raiders to keep them in it in a back and forth exciting game.

Sutton made a lot of great passes throughout the night to her receivers Naira Matos, Alston and McEwan.

Down 21-14, Sutton found McEwan open for a score and then Sutton tied it with the extra point score tying the game.

Ridgeview took the lead with 19 seconds left in the game, however Orange Park marched down the field and tied it again.

Tied after regulation, the game went into overtime and the Panthers were able to get the win and celebrate history.

Ridgeview 34, Bradford 6

Playing its third game in as many days, the Panthers showed no signs of fatigue at all in a 34-6 win over visiting Bradford.

Gilford scored twice in the first quarter to give the Panthers a quick 14-0 lead.

Ridgeview kept pouring it on as McEwan scored to increase the lead to 28-6 and Matos closed it out with a reception from Sutton for a 34-6 win.

Ridgeview (7-1, 6-1) travels to Westside on Thursday for its final district game before closing out the regular season April 17 at Palatka.
