Bradford Sets Tone In Historic Basketball Championship Season

The Bradford boys basketball team jumped out to a 33 to 18 lead over paxton at halftime on there way to a 64 to 44 state championship victory. The Tornadoes set the tone in the FHSAA Class 1A boys basketball state title game, winning its first in Bradford high school history.

The amazing accomplishment was achieved by an amazing team that went 16-10 on there historic season, lead by head coach Sampson Jackson. The team was lead by jr shayne davis who averaged 11.1 points per game. the tornado’s had several players that averaged nearly double digits all season including senior Jontez Williams (9.1), Dae’jon Shanks (9.3), Chalil Cummings (8.1), and senior Amari jones (8.1).

In the championship game Amari Jones scored the first points of the game will teammates Jontez Williams and Chalil Cummings added several scores to give Bradford a 19-6 first quarter lead Paxton would attempt to make a comeback as Latrell Sanders scored points at the rim. However Shayne Davis and company were to much for paxton as he scored points, grabbed rebounds, and played tough defense a steal by shanks and a layup by cummings would seal the victory for Bradford.

Two other Northeast Florida teams will try to continue the championship tone set by Bradford, as Jackson and Ponte Vedra attempt to do what no other public school boys basketball team in the area has done in years. Except now Bradford can add their name to the list. Congratulations to the Bradford Tornadoes, the 2021-2020 Boys Basketball State Champions!
