Philadelphia Pa-When the story of Northeast Florida track and field is told, Mikayla Shavers has earned a place among its all-time greats.
The Fleming Island High School standout has officially committed to continue her athletic and academic career at the University of South Florida (USF) after putting together one of the most remarkable careers ever by a Florida high school jumper.
Shavers didn’t simply compete—she made history.

Her unforgettable senior season reached its peak in June when she captured the 2026 New Balance Nationals Outdoor Championship in Philadelphia, winning the girls triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, 10.75 inches. The national title cemented her status as one of the premier field event athletes in the country and served as the perfect ending to a legendary high school career.

Just weeks earlier, Shavers delivered one of the greatest performances in Florida track history at the FHSAA Class 3A State Championships. Her incredible jump of 42 feet, 11.5 inches not only earned her the state championship but also shattered the Class 3A state meet record and broke a Florida state record that had stood since 2005. The mark finished as the longest wind-legal high school triple jump in the United States during the 2026 season, placing her at the top of the national rankings.
Her dominance wasn’t limited to the triple jump.
Shavers also showcased her versatility by finishing as the Class 3A state runner-up in the long jump, soaring 19 feet, 4 inches to earn another state medal and prove she was among Florida’s elite in multiple jumping events. Those accomplishments earned well-deserved recognition throughout Northeast Florida.

While the medals, championships, and record-breaking performances tell much of the story, those closest to the Fleming Island program know Shavers for something equally important—her relentless work ethic. She became the standard for excellence, pushing herself in every practice while serving as a role model for younger Golden Eagles looking to follow in her footsteps.
Her accomplishments also include:
2x State Champion in Triple Jump
3x State Runner-Up — 2x Triple Jump, 1x Long Jump
4x Bob Hayes Invitational Champion
2026 Pepsi Relays Champion — Triple Jump and 2nd in Long Jump
School Record Holder — Triple Jump, Long Jump, and member of the 4x100m Relay record team
District Champion
Regional Champion

Her accomplishments have elevated Fleming Island’s track and field program onto the national stage and inspired countless young athletes throughout Northeast Florida to dream bigger.
Now, the next chapter begins.
By committing to the University of South Florida, Shavers will take her talents to one of the nation’s respected NCAA Division I track and field programs. The Bulls are adding a proven champion, national-caliber competitor, and record-setting athlete who has already shown she thrives under pressure and excels on the biggest stages.

Although her high school career has reached its finish line, Mikayla Shavers’ journey is far from over. She leaves Fleming Island as a national champion, a Florida record holder, a two-time regional Athlete of the Year, and one of the greatest field athletes ever produced in the Sunshine State.
For the Golden Eagles, her legacy will be measured not only by championships and records but by the standard of excellence she established. For USF, the future has never looked brighter. And for track and field fans across Florida, the opportunity to watch one of the state’s brightest stars compete at the collegiate level is just beginning.
