HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — The marquee matchup was supposed to be McArthur’s 3-star defensive back Sherrod Gourdine against Mandarin’s 5-star wide receiver Brysen Wright.
By the time the night was over in the highly anticipated matchup between McArthur and Mandarin, Wright had given everyone plenty to talk about.
The five-star wide receiver, known around Jacksonville as “B-Fye,” delivered an electric performance Friday night as Mandarin powered past McArthur, 38-21. Wright showed why he is regarded as the No. 1 overall recruit in the nation for the 2028 class, making big plays on offense and defense while helping the Mustangs stampede to victory.
But Wright wasn’t the only Mandarin star shining in Hollywood.
The night began with another highly recruited player making an immediate impact. Miami quarterback commit Knox Annis wasted no time finding the end zone, connecting with senior wide receiver Will Jones for a 12-yard touchdown on his first pass of the season.

Then came the matchup everyone wanted to see.
Annis went deep for Wright, and the five-star receiver came down with the football at the 2-yard line, setting Mandarin up for another scoring opportunity.

Wright later delivered one of the night’s most spectacular plays, hauling in a one-handed touchdown grab that once again demonstrated the extraordinary athleticism that has made him a national recruiting sensation.
Elite. No. 1 overall for a reason.
At the end of the first quarter, Mandarin held a 14-7 advantage. Annis was already 3-of-5 passing for 70 yards and a touchdown, while Wright had two receptions for 50 yards.
As the game progressed, Mandarin continued to find ways to get its playmakers involved.
Annis finished the night with 125 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Wright finished with 81 receiving yards and a touchdown. However, his impact went well beyond his receiving numbers.
Playing both wide receiver and safety, Wright recorded three tackles, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and an interception. He also appeared to take a punt return to the house, only to have the spectacular play erased by a penalty.
Still, there was no erasing Wright’s overall impact.
At 6-foot-3½ and 215 pounds, Wright possesses the size, speed and ball skills that have made him one of the most closely watched high school football players in the country. During his first two varsity seasons at Mandarin, he totaled 77 receptions for 1,629 yards and 18 touchdowns. As a sophomore, he produced 46 catches for 983 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 63 tackles and five interceptions on defense.
His highlight-reel catches have also helped make him a social-media sensation, including spectacular one-handed grabs that have gone viral nationally.
Yet while Wright was the marquee name, Shaunqueze Foster was the workhorse.
The Mandarin running back repeatedly punished the McArthur defense, finishing with 156 rushing yards and three touchdowns as the Mustangs controlled the game on the ground.
That combination proved too much for McArthur.
Wright provided the flash. Foster provided the muscle. Annis provided the arm.
Together, they helped Mandarin turn a highly anticipated matchup into a statement victory.
For Wright, however, the night offered another reminder of why college programs across the country are chasing his signature. He already holds offers from many of the nation’s premier programs, including Ohio State, LSU, Alabama and Georgia. Miami has also emerged as a major contender, and the connection is obvious:
Annis is already committed to the Hurricanes’ 2028 class and has been recruiting his Mandarin teammate to join him in Coral Gables.
For now, though, Wright remains a Mustang.
And on this night in Hollywood, B-Fye put on a show.

He caught touchdowns. He made plays on defense. He nearly returned a punt for another score. And while Foster carried the workload, Wright supplied the star power.

Its No. 1-ranked superstar left with another performance that lived up to the hype. Fans, spectators, and kids just wanted a piece of history, as they acknowledge players like this only come around once every blue moon.
