University Christian Outscores Postseason Opponents 55-3 On Their Way To Softball State Championship

The 2026 season will forever stand as one of the greatest years in University Christian softball history. Under the leadership of Head Coach Keith Stroud, the Christians combined veteran leadership, young talent, explosive offense, and clutch pitching to capture the Class 1A state championship with a 4-1 victory over Geneva.

University Christian finished the season with an outstanding 21-4 record while earning major victories over The Bolles School, Beachside High School, and Creekside High School along the way. By the time the playoffs arrived, the Christians were playing their best softball of the year. During an incredible postseason stretch, UC outscored opponents 55-3 on the road to the state title.

The Christians punched their ticket to the championship game with a dominant 12-2 semifinal victory over Schoolhouse Prep. The offense exploded from the opening inning while the pitching staff kept complete control of the game, continuing the balanced style that defined the season.

In the state championship game against Geneva, University Christian wasted no time taking control. The Christians struck early in the bottom of the first inning when Lydia Smith ripped a double and later scored on a Geneva error. UC continued to pressure the Knights defense, and before the inning ended, the Christians had built a 2-0 lead.

The momentum stayed with University Christian throughout the game. Piper Tessier added a sacrifice fly to help extend the lead, and by the end of the first inning, the Christians had firmly established control.

The biggest offensive moment came in the third inning. Sinai Tunsill sparked the rally by beating out an infield single with her speed. Moments later, senior Elissa Murdock delivered one of the biggest hits of the championship game, crushing an RBI triple to the gap. Piper Tessier followed with an RBI infield single as the Christians pushed the lead to 4-0 by the end of the third inning.

Geneva attempted to rally later in the game when Jazlyn Rodriguez doubled home a run to cut the deficit to 4-1, but University Christian never panicked. Behind steady defense and strong pitching, the Christians continued making winning plays in pressure situations.

The championship moment finally arrived when senior Dixie Tessier fielded a ground ball and calmly completed the game-ending 1-3 putout, securing University Christian’s second state softball championship in program history.

The title run showcased the depth and talent throughout the Christians roster. Sophomore Ava Surles contributed two home runs while playing catcher, first base, and right field. Lydia Smith added one homer and an impressive 18 stolen bases while providing spark at the top of the lineup.

Mila Lackowski delivered another home run during the season while excelling defensively at shortstop and in the outfield. Freshman Cassidy Morgan added 13 stolen bases and became one of the team’s most dangerous runners.

Seventh grader Sinai Tunsill emerged as one of the team’s breakout stars with 12 stolen bases and 18 RBIs while making key plays throughout the postseason. Piper Tessier became one of the Christians’ top offensive weapons with 24 RBIs and nine doubles while also contributing inside the pitching circle.

Senior Dixie Tessier added 16 RBIs while anchoring the pitching staff with 71 strikeouts. Naomi Winburn, an eighth grader, posted a strong .651 slugging percentage with seven doubles while also striking out 28 batters as a pitcher. Senior Elissa Murdock led the team with a tremendous .839 slugging percentage and four triples, providing leadership and big hits all season long.

Freshman Evey Bryant added two triples and excelled on the bases, continuing the aggressive identity that fueled the Christians throughout the year.

Inside the circle, Piper Tessier recorded 25 strikeouts while helping stabilize the pitching rotation alongside Winburn and Dixie Tessier.

From the first pitch of the season to the final out of the championship game, University Christian displayed toughness, confidence, and championship-level execution. Coach Keith Stroud and the Christians now leave behind a 2026 season that will be remembered as one of the most dominant championship runs in Florida Class 1A softball.
