JonMichael Thompson is already building an impressive athletic résumé at Atlantic Coast High School. Thompson has established himself as a versatile three-sport athlete who contributes on the football field, basketball court and track.
On the football field, Thompson plays both cornerback and running back, giving Atlantic Coast a player who can impact the game on both sides of the ball. At 5-foot-8 and 185 pounds, he brings a combination of size, strength and speed that allows him to compete in multiple roles and beat defenders in open field. While also challenging receivers with PBUs in the secondary.
Thompson leads Atlantic Coast in All-Purpose Yards, while also getting action with receptions as a receiver, and rushing for a touchdown as a running back. His three years of starting experience also stand out. Thompson has gained valuable varsity-level experience at a young age, giving him an opportunity to continue developing his game while taking on an important role for his team.
Thompson’s athletic ability extends beyond football. During basketball season, he takes on the responsibilities of a point guard, a position that requires ball-handling ability, court vision, decision-making and leadership. His experience as a football player can also translate to the basketball court through his physical style and competitive approach.
Thompson also competes in track and field, where he runs the 100-meter dash. The event puts a premium on acceleration, speed and explosiveness—qualities that can also benefit him as a football running back and defensive back.
Being a three-sport athlete gives Thompson opportunities to develop different parts of his athletic game throughout the school year. Football allows him to showcase his physicality and versatility, basketball develops his quickness and decision-making, while track gives him an opportunity to focus directly on speed and explosiveness.
His combination of three-sport participation, starting experience and versatility makes him a player to watch as he continues his high school career.
