Longtime Bolles volleyball coach Elise Bush steps down

JACKSONVILLE – Elise Bush is stepping down as volleyball coach at The Bolles School after 31 successful years guiding the program. While health issues led to her decision to conclude her coaching career, Bush will continue in her role at the School as an assistant athletic director and ninth grade advisor.

Elise Bush NEWBush compiled an outstanding 696 wins in her career, leading the program to a state title in 1989 as well five state runners-up finishes, 20 State Final Four appearances and 25 district titles. Several of her athletes went on to play college volleyball and even more went on to success in their chosen career paths. Bush has left such a lasting positive impact on her athletes, many went on to become coaches themselves including as her assistants at Bolles.
“Elise is among the coaching legends at Bolles and has led the volleyball program with strength and character,” said Athletic Director Matt Morris. “She is a beloved and integral member of the Bolles family and I know she will continue to make a positive impact at the School.”

“Over 31 years, we experienced much success on the court due to players and coaches who were dedicated and committed to being the best they could be, while never losing sight of the fact that volleyball is a team effort,” Bush said “I am most proud of the fact that Bolles Volleyball became a family among the players, parents and coaches.”

She earned Second Team All-State honors as a high school senior and received First Team honors as a junior. Lee was named first team All-District and All-Region for three years and became the first player at Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky, to reach the 1,000 kill mark, ending her career with 1,035.
“I am leaving the volleyball program in very capable hands,” Bush said of Lee. “She brings positive energy and quality experience as a player and coach. I look forward to watching her lead Bolles Volleyball to continued success.”
