Oakleaf back on top of area softball rankings again

We are nearing the end of the regular season for high school softball as teams make their final push for making the postseason and begin working on the playoffs. Who are the top teams in the area and who is likely heading to the Final Four in Vero Beach ? These are questions we will answer over the next few weeks.

Week 3 Rankings

1 Oakleaf (16-2)
Outlook: It wasn’t just the fact they defended their Kissimmee Klassic title it was how and who they beat along the way with wins over Timber Creek (receiving votes in 9A) 4-1,  Eustis (No. 4 in 5A) 2-1, Stoneman Douglas (receiving votes in 9A) 17-1 and Bartow (No. 6 in 8A) 7-3 in the final.

2 Bartram Trail (15-2)
Outlook: After shockingly dropping a 9-3 loss at home to Middleburg, the Bears made Mandarin pay for it in a 12-0 5 inning win over the Mustangs a day later.

3 Providence (13-1)
Outlook: Ten wins in a row for the Stallions after wins over Sandalwood 6-2 and Interlachen 16-1 this week has them rolling along towards the postseason.

4 Columbia (16-3)
Outlook: Seven wins in a row for the Tigers after a 5-2 10 inning road win over West Nassau and a 10-3 win over Vanguard, which has the Tigers on the verge of possibly clinching the top seed.

5 West Nassau (14-5)
Outlook: A 2-1 week started with a tough 5-2 10 inning loss at home to No. 7 Columbia, but the Warriors rebounded with wins over Bradford 6-0 and Suwannee 12-1.

6 Baker County (13-5)
Outlook: The Wildcats went on the road during Spring Break and swept a pair of games with wins over Montverde 6-4 and Apopka (17-3) 2-1 to move up in the rankings.

7 Ridgeview (11-4)
Outlook: The Panthers had the rare week off to get ready for the last swing of the season including a crucial district game at Clay Wednesday.

8 Keystone Heights (14-7)
Outlook: A 1-3 week would normally mean an automatic drop out of any rankings but losses to Bartow (No. 6 in 8A) 6-5, Lakewood Ranch (No. 7 in 8A) 8-3 and Land O’Lakes (No. 2 in 7A) 10-1 keeps them here along with a 16-0 win over South Fork in the finale.

9 Mandarin (16-4)
Outlook: The week started off promising for the Mustangs with a 19-2 win over Bolles, but it came to an abrupt hault with a 12-0 loss Friday to Bartram Trail.

10 Trinity (14-7)
Outlook: Split a pair of games this week with a high scoring 11-10 loss to Suwannee but rebounded to knock off Union County 10-4 to close out the week.

Dropped out: None

Honorable Mention: Creekside (11-8), St. Johns (11-1), Clay (12-7), Eagles View (13-2), Peniel (14-2), Christ Church (9-1)
