Bolles, Providence and newcomer Clay dominate area rankings

We are reaching near the end of the regular season as the playoffs are quickly approaching this month. Teams make their final push towards winning the district tournament and securing a playoff berth.

Here is our fourth installment of area baseball rankings. We have a new leader now after previous No. 1 Providence fell to Trinity,  allowing Bolles to regain the top spot.

Week 4 rankings

1 Bolles (17-3)

Why: A sweep over nemesis Baker County not only gives the Bulldogs the top seed in the upcoming District 3-5A tournament and also vaulted back in the top spot this week.

2 Providence (18-3)

Why: Rain washed away a scheduled game against Nease earlier in the week and in the only game of the week, the Stallions lost a 4-3 nail bitter to Trinity which determined the top seed.

3 Trinity (14-5)

Why: Conquerors win a pair of one run games including a huge 4-3 win over Providence to decide the top seed as well as a 6-5 win over University Christian.

4 Clay (15-5)

Why: The hottest team in the area continues to win, sweeping a pair of critical district games with nemesis and previously No. 3 Ridgeview last week 6-1 and 6-1 in a two game series.

5 Creekside (15-3)

Why: A pair of wins over Fleming Island 2-1 and Menendez 5-1 keep the Knights in the top five and steadily climbing quietly up the rankings.

6 Mandarin (15-4)

Why: Mustangs go on the road and sweep a pair of Central Florida teams including a 4-1 win over Lake Brantley and a 10-0 win over Orlando University High.

7 Bishop Kenny (13-5)

Why: A split with Yulee puts District 4-5A into a possible three way tie as Crusaders bounce back from 6-3 loss with 10-1 win a day later to split the series.

8 Stanton (12-4)

Why: Thanks to rain the Blue Devils lone game of the week was a 7-1 win over First Coast, the sixth straight win for the Devils.

9 Terry Parker (16-3)

Why: Thanks to rain the Braves lone game of the week was a 3-1 win over Englewood, the ninth straight win for the Braves.

10 Ridgeview (13-5)

Why: A week ago, Ridgeview was in the midst of a long winning streak that lasted about a month, however a two game series sweep by Clay in a pair of 6-1 games ends the streak and drops them down a few spots.

Dropped out: None
