WESTSIDE – Not even playing two games in a week could derail Old Plank Christian perfect season so far.
The Defenders opened the week pounding previously undefeated Masters Academy 39-0 Tuesday in a showdown for first place in Region 1.
Three days later, they traveled to Kissimmee and came home with a 47-18 win over host City of Life Christian to end the week with two wins.
Old Plank (7-0, 7-0) takes the week off for returning to the field to host Duval Charter Nov. 2 for a chance to clinch the region title.
The top six teams from each region make the playoffs, with how teams finish in the regular season determining where you are seeded. The brackets are then criss-crossed meaning you play a team in the other region and its possible you can play a team from your own region for the state title.
Every team in Region I plays each other once for nine regional games with the winner getting one of the top two seeds.
Region I is comprised of local teams Old Plank, Duval Charter, Harvest Community, Seacoast Christian, Cornerstone Christian, First Coast Christian and First Baptist Christian out of Palm Coast along with Vero Beach Masters Academy, Orlando Eastland Christian and Kissimmee City of Life Christian.
Region 2 is comprised of Academy at the Lakes from Land O’Lakes, Clearwater Lakeside Christian, St. Petersburg Canterbury, Miami Citi Christian, Orlando Faith Christian, Tarpon Springs Solid Rock, Fort Pierce St. Lucie Christian and Riverview Bell Creek.
