Sweetwater Ready To Carry Championship After Win Over Grandpark

Today at TIAA Bank Field, teams will go head to head in the Pop Warner youth football league, competing for the right to hoist the coveted city championship. It’s an annual right of passage, as teams have fought all season for the chance to play at the “Jaguar Stadium” in hopes of representing the Greater Jacksonville Pop Warner association in the Southeast Playoffs and eventually the Super Bowl held at Disney. One team that’s ready to carry the trophy is the Junior Pee Wee Sweet Water team.

Sweetwater defeated rival Grandpark last week to advance to the championship. It was their third time playing Grandpark in the season, including a 6-0 win, a 14-8, and finally a 28-0 win. Each time the Hawks increased their advantage on offense, something Head Coach Mike Lundy said he wanted to see. ” It’s been our mission to play Sweetwater football and we really did that against Grandpark. The running backs ran hard, the quarterback played a lights out game and the defense played really hard”.

Quarterback Glenn Foreman led an offense that showed its versatility. Multiple formations, pre-snap shifts, and good ole smash mouth running is something the Hawks under Coach Lundy specializes in. However if Sweetwater is to win a title they’ll have to do it with their defense. Defensive Tackle Sean Marks led a defense that shut out Grandpark. Marks secured multiple sacks and created havoc in the back field for the opposing offense. The defense was key to the victory and will be ultimate factor when Sweetwater faces Westside in the championship.

After losing earlier in the season, Sweetwater believes they are a better team and playing better at the right time. Today we learn if that’s true as the Hawks look to soar to the top by winning a title.
