Somerset Academy Ousts Duval Charter of Flagler and SOS Academy

In Middle School Volleyball, up and coming powerhouse Somerset Academy would dual against both Duval Charter of Flagler and SOS Academy all in the same day. The Lady Eagles would render both teams powerless in two sets. Coach Robbie Keuchler Jr. said, “We are a team and the girls played as a team. As a team, we are ready for a championship win. My goal is to prepare the girls for the next level which is high school”.

Game 1: Somerset Academy vs. Duval Charter of Flagler

Somerset would take to the court as the game began with Jayla Myers at serve. Myers served six consecutive kills over Duval Charter of Flagler quickly gaining the 6-0 point advantage. Cayla White later answered back with a series of serves for Duval Charter gaining a score of 6-4, Somerset. Brooke Robinson and Charissee Harding continued to deliver magnificent serves throughout the game to keep Duval Charter on the board. However, the Lady Eagles were armed with big plays from Andrea Blanco , Andrea Robles and Victoria Lampkins ending the first set 25-11, Somerset.

Duval Charter of Flagler began the second set at serve as White lead the team. Somerset’s defense would bump the ball back and forth before the attack to score. While at serve, Somerset took over the lead 11-7. Both teams consistently scored one right after the other tying the score at times. Duval Charter of Flagler would ultimately succumb to Somerset 25-20 closing out the second set.

Game 2: Somerset Academy vs. SOS Academy

Somerset would later match up against rival SOS Academy in a second game. Before and during the game, SOS’s head Coach Brown affectionately laughed and chatted with Coach Keuchler and team. The competion between the two teams would consist of great sportsmanship as Coach Brown previously worked as Keuchler’s assistant coach for two years.

SOS’s Arianna Urbina began the serve to Somerset picking up an early 2-0 lead. Tarita Brown and Kayla Hancock aided Somerset to take over the lead 10-6. Alondra Rodriquez and Jora Hoskins set ups at the net were no match for the Lady Eagles defense as the first set would come to a close at 25-11, Somerset.

“Baby Shark doo doo doo doo doo” chants echoed across the courts between SOS and Somerset players to kick off the second set. Back to attack, Myers would begin the serve sending over four successful serves beginning the early 4-0 lead. Michelle Kirkland and Terielle Clark skillfully rained down attacks further driving the score to 17-12, Somerset. Despite Sanaii McClain and Jori Hoskins offense efforts, the Lady Eagles would continue to soar defeating SOS 24-14 in the second set.

After two flawless victories, Somerset is now third place in the league now have their sights set on a championship victory this season.
