Kirby Smith Does It Again! Defeats Landmark To Repeat As Champions

Sandalwood HS- The Kirby Smith Comets have successfully navigated their way to the county championship three times in three years. And for the second year in a row, the Comets hoisted the championship trophy as the Duval County Middle School Boys Basketball Champions.

Kirby jumped out on Landmark creating turnovers with pressure and making easy layups. #1 Caleb Williams pushed the ball up court and attacked the rim in the first quarter. He scored 4 of his 15 points in the quarter. He and the long guards of Kirby absolutely suffocated the smaller guards of Landmark outscoring the Seahawks 13-2.

Landmark would wake up in the second quarter as #22 Jakaree Eley got hot. He hit jumpers when open and drove to the rack when the lane opened up. His 7 points in the quarter helped his team keep the game close. He finished with 20 points in the game for Landmark.

Unfortunately for Landmark, Kirby had many weapons that were unable to be contained. Jaheim Robinson grabbed offensive rebounds and successfully scored put backs He scored 10 of his game high 22 points in the quarter as Kirby took a 32-16 lead into halftime.

The second half saw more of the same as Comets rained down on the Seahawks. Ronald Durham got in on the scoring act with 13 points in the second half. Kirby would outscore Landmark 17-13 in the third and the 15 -12 in the fourth, blasting their way to a cosmic win.

Caleb Williams was named MVP of the game, and he was one of many talented basketball players from both teams that are destined for greatness in high school.
