Generals Blast Braves 28-3 As Riverside Gets First Win Of Season

Terry Parker HS- It seemed like an ideal start for Terry Parker in their game versus Riverside High. The Braves took the opening kickoff and returned it deep into General territory. Terry Parker had the ball at Riverside’s 2 yard line, but was unable to punch it in for six. Instead, Terry Parker settled for a field goal making the score 3-0 early.

Unfortunately for Terry Parker, that would be the only offense the team would muster all evening as Riverside cannoned up and blasted the Braves to the score of 28-3.

On the ensuing kickoff, Riverside would start at their own 32-yard line. just five plays later, led by quarterback Cale Zarah, Riverside would drive down the field and score on an Al Gipson 4 yard run up the middle giving the Generals a 6-3 lead.

After both teams stalled on offense having been forced to punt, Riverside began to put together a solid drive after their defense turned the momentum of the game. Riverside sacked Parker’s quarterback on 4th down and took over on downs at the 49 yard line. A pass play to Gipson would lead to a touchdown from Daniel Plummer III to wide receiver Ronald Coleman. The Coleman touchdown and 2 point conversion by Gipson would make it 14-3 in the second.

Joe Morrison would get in on the action for the Riverside defense as he intercepted a pass in the endzone and returned it 40 yards. After a big pass play by Ricke Shaw, Riverside would score again when Gipson scored on a 20-yard touchdown run. Deavery Weeks would catch the 2-point conversion giving Riverside a 22-3 at halftime.

The Riverside defense led by Gregory Washington who had several tackles for loss, a sack and several tackles in the contest, show exactly what they could do when they are fully healthy unit. So deep is the Riverside defense that back up linebacker Lawrence Neolms got in on the action with an interception and 60 yard return for a Riverside touchdown. 28-3 Final

Next up for Riverside (1-0) is Atlantic Coast (1-0) who defeated Mandarin today 24-21. For Terry Parker, they hope to get back on the winning track against Fletcher (0-1) who fell to Sandalwood Friday 19-15.
