San Jose Prep Focused During 4-Game Win Streak To Start Season

Northeast Fl- San Jose Prep defeated Mandarin 52-44 this week, as the Storm improved to 4-1 on the season. Kourtney Johnson led all scorers with 17-points, including five 3-pointers in the contest. Jazlynn Curtis was the second leading scorer, with 11- points in the game.

The Storm, stormed out to an early 18-6 lead in the first quarter, thanks to Senior Ameera Nayani who hit two 3-pointers in the quarter. San Jose Prep hit a total of four 3-pointers in the quarter. In the second quarter, Mandarin would stampeed back into the game as 6’4 Senior Yakiya Milton went to work scoring all 6-points for the Mustangs. She would conclude the half of basketball with 8-points, but Mandarin still trailed San Jose Prep 28-19 at halftime.

In the second half, Mandarin would cut the Storm’s lead to 4-points 47-43 in the fourth quarter. Nykeria Thomas would lead the charge, scoring 9-points in the game. However, San Jose Prep would pull away late in the fourth quarter. Their barrage of ten 3-pointers in the game, would heat up the court and highlights a hot start to their season.

Coach Qualisaya Rene Howell and the Storm are currently on a four game winning streak. After falling to Spruce Creek to start the season, they’ve garnered wins over Northside Christian Academ (NC), Boca Raton, and Kathleen (Lakeland). They look to extend that win streak to five games when they face Mainland (Daytona) on Friday 12/2/22.
