Bolles Runs Away With First Round Match Against Bishop Kenny

Northeast Fl- The Bolles Bulldogs defeated the Bishop Kenny Crusaders 45-14 at home in the first round of the 2M Region 1 playoffs Friday night. The Bulldogs scored 21-unanswered points in the second half to run away with the game. The win sets up another matchup between Bolles and Raines in playoffs. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Bolles went up 10-0 in the second quarter thanks to a short touchdown by running back Emmett Grzebin and a field goal. It looked early as if a repat would occur from the Bolles Kenny matchup from two weeks ago. Bolles won that matchup 52-18.

However, Bishop Kenny would respond valiantly. Lead by their star quarterback James Resar, Kenny mounted a second quarter drive that ended in a touchdown run by Resar. The Iowa commit took off down the right sideline, and ran over a defender on his way to the end-zone for the score, as Kenny pulled to within 3-points trailing 10-7.

Unfortunately for Bishop Kenny, that’s as close as they would get all night. Bolles added two more scores before the half. One of them came from Coastal Carolina commit quarterback DJ Moore who threw a quick out to wide receiver Naeem Burroughs, who took it the distance 68-yards for the score. An interception on the next drive resulted in a quick touchdown by Bolles again taking a 24-7 lead.

Kenny would get a score right before the half when Julian Dewees ran off right tackle for a 9-yard touchdown to cut the Bolles lead to 24-14 going into the half. The score provided some optimism for the Crusaders, who were scratching and clawing to stay in the game.

However, Bolles would ensure that optimism turned into submission when junior running back Emmett Grzebin reeled off a 71-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. A back breaker in the game. Another touchdown run followed by a “pick 6” by Bolles would close out the scoring on the night.
