Jacksonville Fl- The Episcopal Eagles came into this game looking to have a bounce-back game from last week’s loss to Providence. The Eagles have looked great overall on the season, boasting a 3-1 record heading into Friday night’s matchup versus Kipp.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Kipp would punt, and freshman defensive back Amir Allen would take the punt to the house for the first score of the game.

The very next drive, Episcopal’s freshmen defensive back Damar Gauldin would get a 40-yard pick-six. In the blink of an eye, the Eagles’ two standout freshmen put Episcopal up by two touchdowns early in the second quarter.

A defensive battle would continue the rest of the first half, however, Episcopal would put together a solid drive at the end of the first half. A last-second heave at the end of the first half would be intercepted by Jonathan Pierre for KIPP. The first half would end 14-0, in favor of Episcopal.
Episcopal would continue to rely on their heavy run game the rest of the game, as their quarterback Harrison Spencer would go down with a leg injury early in the third. Sophomore running back Levi Ritter continued his dominance on the ground through the third quarter. Ritter could not be stopped all night, even after getting his helmet ripped off on a strong run up the middle.

KIPP found themselves on a fourth down on their own one-yard line. Episcopal would then block KIPP’s punt for a safety, giving them a 16-0 lead.

After the blocked punt, Episcopal’s offense really seemed to wake up. They ran the ball right down the field, with a mix of strong rushes from Levi Ritter and Brayden Wessinger out of the wildcat formation. Eventually, Wessinger would punch the ball into the endzone for the game’s first offensive touchdown of the evening.

Episcopal would take a 23-0 lead. Junior safety Cari Morrell would make a drive halting interception for the Eagle defense. The third quarter would end with an Episcopal lead of 23-0.

Towards the end of the game, backup quarterback Braden Williams would throw up a jump ball to Brayden Wessinger who would go up and over a defender for an incredible touchdown. The score would now be 30-0. The Eagles’ defense would stand strong and force a turnover on downs with a minute left in the game, completing the 30-0 shutout.
For Episcopal, this marks their fourth win on the season. In all of their wins, they have given up zero points and won by at least 30. Another impressive win for the Eagles shows how stout and tough their defense is. It was the young stars showing out for the Eagles on Friday night as well, as it was all freshmen, sophomores, or juniors making the big plays.

Episcopal should be a team to watch out for over the next few years. The Eagles should have a fairly easy road the rest of the season, except for Trinity Christian in two weeks, who they haven’t beaten since 2007. Next week they will have a home matchup against Christ’s Church Academy.
