Oakleaf- The last two weeks, the Bolles Bulldogs have been on a mission, seek and destroy. After giving up 40 points in a loss to St. Augustine two weeks ago, the Bolles defense shutout Bishop Kenny 36-0. And on Friday night, the Bulldogs completely shutdown the Oakleaf Knights, both with their unmovable defense, and unbridled rushing attack.

Bolles came out firing, establishing dominance in the second quarter with an efficient running game and strong offensive execution. With about 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, Bolles struck first with a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Xander Edwards. That pushed the Bulldogs ahead 7-0.

Then, roughly 4 minutes before halftime, Bolles added another rushing touchdown, this one an 85-yard scamper by Edwards to stretch their lead to 14-0.

Around this same time, Oakleaf answered: quarterback Jack McKissock found wide receiver Mike Conner on a long pass, setting up the Knights near the Bolles 5-yard line, but the touchdown was ultimately scored on the ground by Fareed Coleman, on a 9-yard rush. That made it 14-6, though Oakleaf failed to convert the extra point.

Just under a minute before halftime, Bolles again struck with a passing play for a touchdown. A little razzle dazzle as wide receiver Naeem Burroughs received the hand-off in motion and tossed a halfback pass to Camden Tietze. That score carried Bolles to a 21-6 lead at the half

The second half saw Bolles continuing to control the game, though scoring slowed. About 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter, Bolles kicked a field goal to push their lead further (making it 24-6) and keep Oakleaf at bay. Jaden Weatherly continued to make the right play at quarterback, patiently picking his spots, and taking his shots when there leading the offense down field.

Weatherly’s touchdown strike to Naeem Burroughs capped off an impressive offensive performance against one of the top defenses in Northeast Florida. Weatherly finished 8 of 12 for 118 yards passing a passing TD. Burroughs finished with 43 yards receiving and a touchdown.

In addition, Bolles’ ground game, led by Xander Edwards, was especially effective. He racked up 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns, helping Bolles to chew up clock and limit Oakleaf’s opportunities. Edwards also added 43 yards receiving from his running back position.

On defense, Bolles also made big plays — most notably a late fumble return for a touchdown by Asher Ghioto, sealing the Bulldogs’ dominance putting them up 38-6. The 5-star sophomore Ghioto finished with 8 tackles, 4 TFLs, 4 sacks, a blocked field goal, and the fumble recovery which resulted in the 17-yard scoop and score.

He epitomized the overall domination by the Bolles defense where Simeon Caldwell led in with 10 tackles. Keyaan Nazir and Christian Hayes caused fumbles. Also 10 sacks in total by the unit including Thomas Green (2), Chance Faucheaux (2) Christian Hayes (1), Corbyn Fordham (1).

The Final score: Bolles 38, Oakleaf 6.

Bolles improved to 4-1 on the season; Oakleaf fell from its previous unbeaten status to 4-1. The Bulldogs head into their much easier part of the schedule with a game at Baldwin next week. Oakleaf has a tough road test at Fletcher next week.
