After Winning First Gateway Conference Championship, Baldwin Looks To Continue History Making Season

The 2026 Duval County Baseball Gateway Conference Championship turned into an instant classic, as Baldwin edged Sandalwood 4-3 in a thrilling back-and-forth battle. In the end, Baldwin made history, capturing its first Gateway Conference title and finishing the job with grit and timely plays.

Early on, it looked like Sandalwood was in control. They came out strong and jumped to a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in each of the first two innings. Their energy was high, and they put pressure on Baldwin right away. Jandriel Agosto led the charge for Sandalwood, collecting two hits and driving in a run to help his team get ahead.

However, Baldwin didn’t panic. Instead, they settled in and began to chip away. In the third inning, Baldwin got on the board with a key run to cut the lead to 2-1. From there, the game tightened up as both teams leaned on their pitching and defense.

Then came a critical stretch in the fifth inning. Sandalwood added another run to extend its lead, but Baldwin responded immediately. Showing resilience, Baldwin scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 3-3. The momentum had clearly shifted, and the crowd could feel the excitement building.

Next, in the top of the sixth inning, Turner Farah delivered the biggest moment of the game. He crushed a leadoff home run, giving Baldwin a 4-3 lead. It was his fourth home run in the last four games and his third of the Gateway Tournament, continuing his hot streak at the perfect time.

Meanwhile, Chase Staley was dominant both at the plate and on the mound. He racked up four hits during the game and also struck out eight batters in a strong pitching performance. His all-around effort kept Baldwin in the game when it mattered most. He leads the team with 46 strikeouts on the season.

In addition, Baldwin got key contributions across the lineup. Taylor Wright, Cayden Smith, and Jesse Macik each drove in runs, helping to fuel the comeback victory. Farah has 5 home runs on the season and 10 stolen bases. Maxwell Gallagher leads the team with 18 RBIs and also has 44 strikeouts on the season.. Evan Lewellen, and Mason Williams both are second on the team with 10 RBIs.

Finally, in the last inning, Baldwin’s defense held firm. With the pressure at its highest, they recorded the final outs to secure the 4-3 win. Players stormed the field as the team celebrated a historic moment.

The victory was especially meaningful, as it avenged an earlier 4-3 loss to Sandalwood during the season. Baldwin, now 13-11, enters the postseason on a roll, having won three straight games leading up to the championship, including wins over First Coast (4-2) and Fletcher (4-3).

One of their biggest wins of the season came when senior Josh Jordan singled and scored senior Chase Staley for a 2-1 Baldwin victory in 10 innings against Ridgeview. Baldwin will try to carry this momentum into the 3A District 3 tournament. If this championship game was any sign, they are a team no one will want to face.
