JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One week after suffering its first loss of the season, the Mandarin Mustangs responded with a statement Friday night against Fletcher. With their first five games away from home, Friday night’s Homecoming matchup was an important opportunity to respond after the disappointing loss to Raines. Head coach Toby Bullock’s team did exactly that.
Mandarin entered the game with plenty of offensive firepower, led by running back Shaunqueze Foster Jr., quarterback Knox Annis and five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright. Foster established the tone early for the Mustangs.

The talented running back broke loose for a 50-yard gain, putting Mandarin in excellent scoring position. Fletcher’s defense eventually forced the Mustangs into a fourth-and-goal situation, but Foster finished the drive himself, powering into the end zone from one yard out.

The Mustangs’ defense then delivered another stop, keeping Fletcher from answering. Mandarin’s defensive front played a major role throughout the night, with senior defensive tackle Kindrid Outland, Christian McGowan and the rest of the defensive line helping keep Fletcher’s offense under control.
Mandarin extended its lead in the second quarter when Annis connected with Jace Kemp for a 40-yard touchdown, putting the Mustangs ahead 14-0.
Fletcher finally generated points after its defense recovered a Mandarin fumble in Mustangs territory. The Senators converted the short field into a 31-yard field goal by Jack Kepp, cutting the deficit to 14-3.
Mandarin carried that advantage into halftime.
Mustangs Pull Away After Intermission
Fletcher needed a strong third quarter to get back into the game, but Mandarin quickly put that possibility to rest.
Foster scored again on a fourth-down play, giving Mandarin a 21-3 advantage and adding another touchdown to his strong night.

After another defensive stop, Mandarin went right back to its passing attack.
Annis found Wright for a 40-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 28-3. Wright, one of the nation’s most highly regarded recruits in the 2028 class, was particularly effective against Fletcher. He finished with seven catches for 147 yards and a touchdown.

It was Wright’s biggest moment of a night in which he repeatedly created problems for the Fletcher secondary.
Fletcher continued to fight and eventually found the end zone on a touchdown pass from quarterback Ty Keister, cutting into the Mandarin lead.
But the Senators could not generate enough offense to make the game competitive again.
Mandarin’s Alem Mehmedovic closed out the scoring with a 31-yard field goal, giving the Mustangs a 31-10 victory.

A Defensive Response
The final score told only part of the story. Mandarin’s defense was particularly impressive after last week’s loss to Raines.
Against Raines, the Mustangs surrendered 31 points, including six first-half sacks on Annis as the Vikings controlled the game.
Against Fletcher, Mandarin’s defense consistently created stops and limited the Senators to 10 points.
Mandarin defeated Fletcher 31-10 at The Corral, bouncing back from a 31-13 loss to Raines and taking control of the District 2-5A race. The Mustangs improved to 4-1 on the season, while Fletcher fell to 4-2.

Mandarin will attempt to build on the victory next week when the Mustangs host Lake Mary on Friday, October 2, at 6:30 p.m. Lake Mary enters that matchup at 1-4.
Fletcher will have a bye next week and will return to action after the break.
For Mandarin, Friday night’s victory was exactly the kind of response the Mustangs needed after the Raines loss. Foster and the running game established the physical tone, Annis made timely throws, Wright delivered another standout performance, and the defense controlled the game.
After falling from the ranks of the unbeaten, Mandarin didn’t dwell on the loss.
