What a day for high school football on the Westside of Jacksonville, FL. Today we had a total of six teams scrimmaging and competing to showcase to the public just what they’ve been working on in their 2017 practices. This article will review 2 of the teams in attendance. The teams in attendance today were:
Sandalwood
Mandarin
Ed White
Baldwin
Englewood
Bartram Trail

The first game for the Ed White Commanders came against the Mandarin Mustangs. As in our media day coverage, Coach Sullivan made it clear that he wanted his Commander defense to be imposing and speedy. After the scrimmage, he did not waver in his assessment of his team. Robert Carley and Deryk Hill proved to be the biggest play makers on the field swarming to the ball at any given moment. The defense is very solid. With some adjustments and overages, they have the potential to be great!
Virginia Tech is getting a star in the making in Caleb Stewart as he showed great speed, poise, acceleration, and vision to hit the corners and the holes with power and precision. Behind this man amongst boys on offense, setting up the play action pass should be a piece of cake.

The second game for Baldwin Indians came against the Englewood Rams. If you have never seen exciting running games, yo may want to check out Baldwin this year. The Indians have the potential to be off the charts. And the best part of it all, when you think itβs another run coming, Quarterback Xavier McGriff shows off his arm for a touchdown in the end zone.

Another name on Baldwin to look for is Tyre Pritchett as he was speedy and all over the field on defense and offense. In our media day coverage, this should come as no surprise as Coach Shields believes in versatility.

The Indians defense started a little shaky as the Rams offense was able to run the ball effectively in the beginning. Over the course of the game, there were some defensive adjustments and the defense proved to be better by the end of the game.
The run game continues to be strong for @indianbaldwinfb Xavier McGriff for the touchdown versus the Rams defense. @DuvalSports
