JULINGTON CREEK – Not even playing two games over a four day period could stop Gamble Rogers from remaining perfect still.
Despite playing a tough nail biting 20-14 win over University Christian on Tuesday, the Stingrays still had enough left in the tank to handle Valley Ridge 38-0 at 2209 Park Saturday morning.
Aaron Wynn got things going with a 34 yard touchdown run and then was on the receiving end of a 44 yard touchdown reception from quarterback King Benford for a quick 14-0 lead on its first two possessions.
Seth Stamps closed out the first half scoring on a 24 yard touchdown run giving the Stingrays a 22-0 half time lead.
Gamble Rogers continued the second half with poise as Benford scored on a short run and the defense forced a Valley Ridge safety and Ryan Pickois closed it out with a highlight reel 22 yard touchdown run for a 38-0 lead.
Tristan Metych and Wynn led the Stingrays in catches on the day from Benford, while the offensive line played out standing as well.
Defensively, the Stingrays were led by Dylan Flynn, Tomas Jones, Chris Barnes, Moses King, Jason Stroy, Gavin Losco and Wynn.
On special teams Tabias Brown has a big 70 yard punt return that set up a Stingrays touchdown, while kicker Bryce Addison made all of his extra points.
While coaches won’t say this as every game is important, the pre-season is finally over for the top four teams in the St. Johns Middle School Athletic Association.
Top ranked Gamble Rogers (6-0 overall, 5-0 in SJMSAA), hosts No. 2 Fruit Cove (5-0) in our Co-Game of the Week Wednesday at 5 p.m.
