Girl’s Basketball: Dupont Ignites Comeback Win Over Darnell-Cookman

Dupont Middle- Dupont lured Darnell-Cookman into a Dragons lair Thursday, and feasted to an 18-15 defeat of the Lady Vikings. For the Coach Jones led Lady Dragons, it was their first win at home in two years, erasing a win-less campaign in 2018. In 2019 they’ve already doubled their win total from last year( 2-2) and it’s all due to the hard work and dedication of their play makers. Alana Williams would lead Dupont with 6 points and Alena Williams contributed 5 points in their close victory.

The game would settle off to a sluggish start as Dupont failed to score through out the entire first quarter due to turnovers, missed shots and empty free-throws. Cookman’s defense would continuously apply suffocating pressure to Dupont’s offense. Bones would score 4 points in the quarter allowing Cookman to capture the early 4-0 lead to end the first quarter.

The second quarter transitioned to a more active Dupont defense sending Cookman to the free-throw line consecutively . Treazure Glover raised the bar when she would put Dupont on the score board with a 2 point shot. Subsequently , Cookman clapped back when Bones would land another 2 points, closing out the first half of the game leading Dupont 8-2.

The third quarter battle began as  Dupont’s Alena William and Alana Williams combined for 3 points in the third quarter.  Williams and Cephus of Cookman would also score a combined total of 3 points in the third quarter. Cookman ended the quarter extinguishing Dupont’s inferno with an 11-5 lead.

Flames of heat spewed from the locker room as Dupont fired back onto the court poised and set for action in the fourth.  Dupont’s Alena William set the spark with a 3 point play as she passed the torch to Alena William and Brionna Jacobs for a bit more 3 point action . Anitra Bailey pinned a shot delighting the Dupont crowd. The Lady Dragons would outscore Cookman in the fourth 13-4. Dupont ended the evening with a bang making a huge comeback from a three quarter deficit to totally dominate the fourth the quarter and snuffing out the win
