The Lady Tigers Make A Commanding Statement In Non-Conference Matchup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On December 3rd, the Andrew Jackson Lady Tigers (1-5) and the Edward White Lady Commanders faced off in a non-conference matchup. After the first quarter, the score was 27-5 with the Lady Tigers having the commanding lead over the Lady Commanders.

            #23 Jazmine Jackson (Tigers) was making good things happen for the Lady Tigers on defense. She was stealing the ball constantly and converting her full-court layups to points But to end the half, the Lady Commanders get a jumper off with five seconds remaining to make the score at the half 44-11.

The Lady Commanders’ defense seemed to show some sign of life as they came up with huge blocks, one in the third quarter and another in the fourth. But in the end, the Lady Tigers showed to be too much for the Lady Commanders. The Lady Tigers won 56-12.


Raines Lady Vikings Improve To 4-0 In Class 4A Matchup Against Ribault

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On December 7th, the Raines Lady Vikings (9-1) squared off against the Ribault Lady Trojans (7-2) in a Class 4A District 3 matchup. The Lady Trojans won the first quarter 11-10 thanks to a steal and finish by senior guard, Shayla Bouie (#2) and junior guard, Asia Fleming (#30). Fleming drained five of her 16 points in the first quarter.

            But the Lady Vikings quickly got their offense going after the call was made to throw a 1-2-2 full-court press on the Lady Trojans. Off of a made free throw by the senior point guard, Nyla Allen (#15), the pressure began and Allen perfectly timed the overhead pass as she leaped up and caught it with both hands and finished the layup. The Lady Vikings went into the locker room up 25-19.

            Unlike the first half, the second half was all Lady Vikings. The third quarter was won by the Lady Vikings 14-7. Junior power forward, Jamicia Davis (#22) scored two strong back to back layups for the Lady Vikings. Davis scored six of her 12 points in the third quarter alone to help the Lady Vikings end the third quarter with a 13 point lead, 39-26.

            The final quarter saw the Lady Vikings only score seven points but The Lady Trojans did not have enough in the tank to come back. Raines won with a final score of 46-33. Davis scored a team-high 12 points. While Allen notched a double-double at 10 points and 11 rebounds.
