Terry Parker Upsets Andrew Jackson In Gateway Conference Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On January 28th, the Terry Parker Braves (12-9) shook up the Gateway Conference Tournament and took down #1 seed, Andrew Jackson Tigers (17-3) in one thrilling matchup.

            In the first six minutes of the game, the Braves got off to an early 7-0 lead. But with two minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Tigers got their offense going to tie the score up at 7 a piece heading into the second quarter.

            The second quarter saw the Braves be held to another single-digit quarter. The Tigers won it 17-8 thanks to a 5 point quarter by Jackie Simmons, a 4 point quarter by Kevin Odom, and James Morrow cleaning up on the offensive boards. At the end of the half, the score was 24-15 Tigers. Simmons lead all scorers with 8 points.

            The third quarter saw a lot of great defensive plays by both teams but mainly by the Braves. Terry Parker won the quarter 9-4 with multiple players scoring for the Braves. The score at the end of the third was 28-24 Tigers.

            The final quarter saw the Braves win it 12-7. Tabari Rollins and Lakose Natana combined for 9 points of the 12 scored by the Braves. The fourth quarter saw a lot of back and forth scoring amongst the teams but Chris Victor sunk two clutch free throws with 1:22 remaining in the game to tie the Braves up with the Tigers for the first time since the end of the first quarter.

42 seconds later Jajuan Turner sunk one free throw, which would be the game-winning point to put the Braves up one. The final score was 36-35 Braves.

            Terry Parker will prepare to face First Coast High School on Thursday, January 30th at 5:30 pm in the semifinals of the Gateway Conference Tournament.
