Ponte Vedra Fl- Ponte Vedra advanced to the Region 1-6A final following a 25-12, 25-12, 25-9 win over visiting Niceville on Wednesday night.
The Sharks (27-1) won 13 of the final 15 points in Game 2 to put away the Eagles (10-10). Ponte Vedra followed the blueprint of the first two sets by constantly getting the visitors out of system with precision serving in Game 3.
Ponte Vedra senior Kendall Mignerey’s serving sparked a 7-0 run and helped the Sharks shut the door in Game 3.
Ponte Vedra will host Tallahassee Leon (25-4) in Saturday’s regional final. The Lions have made the state semifinals in five of the last six seasons — often beating St. Johns County programs on that march. Meanwhile, Ponte Vedra is three wins away from its third consecutive state championship and fourth in the last five years.
