Toros See Red As Bishop Kenny Downs Unbeated Tocoi Creek

St. Johns Fl- It was a battle of 2-0 teams Friday night when Tocoi Creek welcomed Bishop Kenny. Tocoi Creek has started the season red hot, defeating Beachside (1-1) and Matanzas (1-1). While Bishop Kenny rolled through First Coast (1-1) and Middleburg (0-2). As was the theme for tonight, something had to give as one team would leave the contest with their first loss of the season.

Bishop Kenny built an early first half lead thanks to scores by quarterback Jame Reasar and running back James Davis III. The Crusaders took a 15-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, it was more of the same as immediately Bishop Kenny forced a turnover deep in Toros territory, setting up shop for Kenny at close range. Kolbe Sexton literally ripped the ball out of the hands of the Toros ball carrier, and with it snatching any hope of a comeback.

It wouldn’t take long for Bishop Kenny to capitalize as running back Julian Dewees scored from 5-yards out to increase the Crusader lead to 22-0 in the 3rd quarter.

Tocoi Creek finally woke up and started to make some plays to make the game competitive. First it was the defense, as linebacker Antonio Juarez and company stuffed Kenny on a 4th and goal. It was plays like this by hard working players such as defensive tackle and offensive guard Nasin Wright who stuffed the middle, making it tough for Kenny to run in the second half.

Holding Kenny to a field goal on their next drive, Tocoi Creek’s offense started to kick into high gear when quarterback Cade Fourman started to use his legs to get first downs. A big pass play set them up in scoring position as Bently Matlock took the rock all the way down to the Kenny 10-yard line.

Wendell Dean would do the rest as he rushed off tackle for the score giving life to a packed house at Tocoi Creek. Yet it would be too little too late, as Bishop Kenny would hold off Tocoi Creek 25-13.

Kenny(3-0) faces Hollis Christian (0-3) next week, while Tocoi Creek hosts Ridgeview(1-2).
