Mandarin Wins Gateway Conference Championship Over Fletcher

It was a re-match of last years Gateway Conference Championship between Mandarin and Fletcher’s Volleyball teams. Mandarin would come away with the win (3-2). The Mustangs won the first match 26-24, lost the second 13-25, rebounded with a 25-23 win, but fell 22-25 in the next. Finally, the Mustangs took home the match 15-7, to win, when Kylie Spraggins got the the final kill.

Mustangs advanced to the championship match with a 3-0 sweep over Sandalwood (25-15, 25-18, 25-10) in the Gateway Conference Tournamant.

Mandarin improved to 18-6, while Fletcher fell to 11-8. Paola S. Aviles Morales led with 22 kills on the night. Spraggins served up two aces on the night, Mia Watson had 22 digs, Rayna Joquin 4 blocks, and Paige Wind, led the team with 46 assists. It was an all around effort for the Mustangs, bringing home their first Gateway Conference championship in 19 years. They will face Flagler Palm Coast on Monday.

Fletcher attempted to defend their Gateway Conference championship but came up short. Theyve had a great year with Nadia Ewton leading in kills (183). Regan Hostetter with 35 aces. Karsten Edwards with 52 blocks. Traci Schrock (400 digs), and Elizabeth Parks with 384 assists. Fletcher will face Orange Park Monday.
