Ponte Vedra Looks To Keep The Party Going With Another District Championship

Ponte Vedra Fl- I had the chance to spend some time with the Ponte Vedra Girls Basketball team recently at their team media day.  I also stuck around to watch some of their practice. The energy was infectious.  The team is experienced, close-knit and determined going into the 2023 season.

They won their District Championship last year, beating favorite Nease in a closely contested game. They later fell short on a buzzer-beater to that same Nease team in the Regional Quarterfinals ending their playoff run earlier than expected. The disappointment from that loss is still very evident. The Sharks are led by returning starters Morgan Gavazzi and Kennedy Rosendahl. They both feel like they have unfinished business and look to lead their team to the championship game for the first time since 2018.

New head coach Jessica-Spencer-Gardner inherited a very good team.  She brings with her the experience of being a former Division 1 basketball player at Oral Roberts University. She also has coaching experience on the AAU level as a coach in the Blue Heat Basketball Academy Program. Her passion and care for the game and her team was very apparent. She was hired in April but has already developed meaningful relationships with her team and the community.

The Ponte Vedra Girls Basketball team is definitely one that you want to keep on your radar this upcoming season.
