Sandalwood’s Ameer Speed Drafted By The New England Patriots

One of the most coveted athletes in Northeast Florida the last decade, the long and fast defensive back Ameer Speed caught the eye of NFL scouts and was drafted by the New England Patriots in the 6th round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The 6’3, 215 pound defensive back has always stood out at his position. The 4-star college recruit signed with Georgia out of high school, and played in 11 games earning his first letter in 2017. After redshirting in 2018, Speed played in 13 of 14 games in 2019 and 9 of 10 games in 2020. He played in 13 of 15 games, including three starts to begin the 2021 season (Clemson, UAB, South Carolina).

In 2022, Speed transferred to Michigan State and played in all 12 games, including 11 starts at cornerback. Speed registered a career-high 62 tackles (36 solo, 26 assists) with 1.0 TFL and five pass break-ups which ranked second on the team.

At Sandalwood high school, Speed excelled in several sports including football and track & field. Speed had three interceptions as a senior, and intercepted a pass to secure a crucial district victory (17-14 ) over Spruce Creek.

With 38 offers coming out of college, Speed chose Georgia, and though his collegiate career didnt pan out as expected there, Speed bet on himself by transferring to Michigan State and won. Now he leaves college as a national champion (Georgia 2021) and heads to the NFL.
