In Photos: 7 Takes From Middleburg Versus Ponte Vedra

Northeast FL- Seven is the biblical number of completion. So every Sunday, we’ll highlight our 7 Takes from a particular game that we covered during the week. These “7 Takes” make up a complete game summary, highlighting key factors that led to the outcome. Our third complete game we provide 7-Takes from is Middleburg (0-3) at Ponte Vedra (2-1), where the Sharks won 35-0.

Take 1

Quarterback Ben Burke passed for 186 yards and 5 touchdowns on Friday versus Middleburg. He found four different receviers, carving up the Broncos defense in the process. The Senior has passed for 602 yards, 8 touchdowns, while rushing for 162 yards in just three games this year.

Take 2

Middleburg struggled offensively to put points on the board. However, Carson Stewart has led the way for the Broncos offense at quarterback. He’s shown flashes of big play ability, tossing a beautiful touchdown to the corner of the end-zone for a score against Hawthorne. Against Ponte Vedra, they never found a way to punch it in the endzone. Stewart may have to take on a larger role by passing the ball, in order to generate off schedule plays with his legs and keep defenses guessing.

Take 3

Two sacks by Joshua Kim set the tone for the Sharks defense. This is no easy feat, seeing that Middleburg likes to run the ball. Kim took advantage of the passing situations seeign that the Broncos had to play catch up. The senior also tied for the lead in tackles (4) in the game. Kim now has 12 tackles (7 solo) and is tied with #51 Ryker Kemp for the team lead with 2 sacks on the season. #11 Nicholas Grieco and #59 Cortez Juarbe both had sacks against Middleburg.

Take 4

Gage Isbell is one of the best interior linemen in Northeast Florida. Two years ago at Ponte Vedra, Isbell registered an amazing 10 pancake blocks while with Fleming Island. Now the senior is with Middleburg, and two years later picked up where he left off by serving pancakes. The 6 foot 2 inch 280 pound bruiser locked up defenders, and drove several into the ground for pancake blocks on Friday. Colleges need to take a long hard look at this weight lifting champion, and big time blocker for the Broncos.

Take 5

Several wide receivers scored for Ponte Vedra against Middleburg, four to be exact. #4 Cole Madson scored twice. #2 Ryan Smith scored once. #8 Landon Okla scored once, and #14 Griffin Owen scored once. Owen only caught one ball on the night but made it count, as he went in from 9-yards out. It was his first touchdown of the season. He is one of many pieces to a Ponte Vedra squad that’s well-balanced across the board.

Take 6

Wide Receiver #13 Aiden Worthy lead the team with 96-yards receiving coming into the contest with Ponte Vedra. Worthy, who is just a sophomore, has impressed with his ability to get open. But also, when he is covered, he can go up top to get the football. Although Middleburg only has 40 pass attempts on the season, Worthy has shown that he’s worthy to go to down the field posting a 32.0 ypg average. #0 Jaydan “Jaybo” Jenkins led the team with 9 receptions coming into the the contest, while #1 Jarren Rosier was second in receptions (5) and yards (52). Middleburg needs to open up the offense and get these playmakers more touches in space.

Take 7

Ponte Vedra’s run game absolutely dominated the day on the ground. The offensive line paved the way for junior Brian Case who rushed for 127-yards against Middleburg. He has scored 3 times in three games, including 2 rushing TDs and 1 receiving TD. The big fellas that opened the holes were (6’4, 300lbs) JAKE GUARNERA (Michigan commit), (6’2, 275lbs) Rocco Garcia, (6’4, 255lbs) Brody McCloud, Jovanni Mackenzie (5’9) and (6’3, 255lbs) Colin Butler. Ponte Vedra currently sits at #8 on the Duval Sports Power Rankings. They are sure to move up in this week’s rankings, as they continue to show their dominance up front.
