Flag Football Photo Gallery: Paxon Pulls Away From Raines In Second Half

Jacksonville Fl- It was the Jaguars Flag football game of the week as Paxon visit Raines in a pivotal Flag Football matchup. Paxon came into the contest 6-1 on the season after a 26-0 win over Wolfson Monday. Paxon secured it’s 5th shutout of the season. Raines came into the game undefeated at 3-0, with wins over Riverside, Ribault and Atlantic Coast. The setting was perfect for an epic showdown Tuesday night.

The two teams traded scores in the first half. Freshman quarterback Elyanna Perez threw a touchdown to Zionah Shingles for the first score of the game. The extra point conversion put the Golden Eagles up 7-0. Raines would respond when quarterback Adrianna Jerido found Ty’kerria Moore for a long reception down the left sideline. Jerido would then find speedster Leah Fulton twice, the second catch being a touchdown. The extra point would tie the game at 7-7.

The game would shift form there as Paxon’s defense would stiffen. Senior De’Anna Young intercepted a pass in first quarter and was all over the field grabbing flags for Paxon. She was a key component to the defensive effort by Paxon in the game. The Golden Eagles would hold Raines scoreless in the second half, as the entire team covered lot’s of ground to pull the Lady Viking’s flags.

With Paxon’s defense shutting down the opposing offense, the Paxon offense would take over led by senior Ansley Hicks. Already scoring a 1-point conversion on the first touchdown with her legs, Hicks would use her legs again to race through and around defenders for a 60-yard touchdown run. Hicks followed that up with a beautiful long touchdown pass to wide receiver Caeyln Carter for a touchdown.

The score was extra sweet for Carter as her father Rod Carter is the head coach for the Raines Flag Football team. He tipped his cap to his daughter after her spectacular touchdown catch. Duval County is tipping their cap to the Golden Eagles as they remain undefeated in Duval County at 7-0. Abby Crother’s score gave them the 27-7 win over Raines. Head Coach Patrick Logue and company will look to make it 8-0 in the county when they visit Fletcher on Thursday. Raines fell to 3-1 and will look to rebound in their next contest.
