Northeast Florida Class 4A Baseball Playoff Recap

It was a wild week on the diamond across the region, as high school baseball teams brought the heat in big-time playoff matchups! check out the Class 4A Recap

Let’s start with a nail-biter: Choctaw edged out St. Augustine 6-5 in a game 1 thriller. Things got tense in the bottom of the 6th when Choctaw took a 6-4 lead. The spotlight was on Jordan Figueroa, a Class of 2026 standout, who went 3-for-4 with two singles and a home run. He was on fire!

Also stepping up was Carter Marracco, who went 1-for-2 with a triple, a stolen base, and a run scored. On the mound, Appleton, Gentry, and Rowell kept things under control for Choctaw, with Appleton (an LBW commit) showing solid stuff. For St. Augustine, Josiah Vargas, Jordan Petty, and Drew O’Quinn each had two hits, and Skylar Kokoszka struck out 9 batters in the tough game one loss.

In game 2, after St Augustine rallied to tie it at 6-6, however Choctaw roared back to take a 12-7 lead. A late push by the Yellow Jackets fell just short as Choctaw defeated St. Augustine 12-10. Choctaw moves on to face Arnold in the Class 4A Region 1 Regional Semifinals.

St. Augustine ended their season 12-15

Jordan Petty led with 26 hits, Maddux Dowler had 3 HR, and Skylar Kokoszka had 80 strikeouts on the season.

Clay walked it off against Bishop Kenny 3-2, thanks to a huge bomb from JC Rosette! Rosette hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, securing a 3-2 victory for Clay High School’s Blue Devils over Bishop Kenny in game one of the 1-4A regional quarterfinal round.

Game 2, Clay defeated Kenny 9-1. 2027 Catcher Rosette went 3-4 with 4 RBI and Merrick Rapoza cleared it with a HR to lead the Clay sweep of BK. Rosette’s performance was exceptional, going 3-for-4 at the plate with the game-winning homer, a notable achievement in the first year of the best-of-three series format for high school baseball playoffs. Merrick Rapoza, celebrated his fifth home run during the regional quarterfinal match.

#2 Clay will face #3 Escambia in the Regional semifinal.
