Large And In Charge: Providence Boasts Size And Sharp Shooting Heading Into Playoffs

Northeast Fl- Providence has established itself as one of Northeast Florida’s most disciplined and efficient programs, blending veteran leadership with size, skill, and defensive intensity. Adding to the disciplined is dominance down low, with size at every position on the floor. This has allowed the Stallions to build momentum throughout the regular season into the playoffs as one of the top teams in the area.

Senior point guard Luke Mayberry (8.9ppg, 1.9spg) has served as the engine of the team, directing the offense with poise while setting the tempo in transition. Alongside him, senior guard Marvin Christie has provided scoring punch on the perimeter averaging 12.8ppg and defensive prowess leading the team in steal (2.1spg).

William Stewart adds defensive pressure and dynamic scoring, leading the Stallions in points scored (14.7ppg) and is third in steals (1.1spg) on the team. The experience and athleticism of these players has helped Providence control pace and execute late in close games.

In the frontcourt, the Stallions have relied heavily on size and physicality. Junior forward Nolan Nelson (12.8ppg, 11.5rpg) and sophomore center Colton Nuualiitia, both standing 6-foot-8, anchor the paint defensively and give Providence a strong rebounding advantage most nights. Their presence inside has allowed wing players like Bodie Eikner, and Cam Huguenard to stretch the floor and attack the rim with confidence.

Providence’s season has been defined by a string of convincing wins and a midseason surge that pushed the team into a double-digit winning streak. The Stallions dominated district tournament play, defeating Bishop Snyder 70–32 and overpowering University Christian 75–30. Those performances showcased talent like Ryan Gornto who averages 12.6ppg and has hit 98 three-pointers on the season at 44%. Nelson dominates down low on both ends. They both showcase the team’s scoring, defensive pressure, and ball movement, with strong rebounding numbers and efficient scoring across the roster.

One of the most impressive victories came in a tight 59–57 win over top ranked Impact Christian Academy, demonstrating the Stallions’ ability to execute in high-pressure situations. They are officially ranked #1 in the FHSAA Region 2A rankings, and #5 in the State of Florida.

They also earned a convincing 82–58 win over Oak Ridge and a 67–46 victory over Atlantic, further proving their consistency against quality competition. Providence has rolled to12 straight wins, improving to 24–3 on the regular season.

Up next: the FHSAA Tournament begins with a home game versus Bishop Snyder in Class 2A.

Statistically, Providence has shown balance on both ends of the floor. In key games this season, the team has produced strong scoring totals while pairing them with high assist numbers and dominant rebounding performances — indicators of unselfish offense and disciplined interior play.

Beyond wins and statistics, the Stallions continue to represent a program rooted in tradition, discipline, and competitive excellence led by long time head coach Jim Martin. Providence basketball under his leadership has long emphasized character and teamwork, and this year’s group reflects that identity through its depth, chemistry, and commitment to execution.

With experienced guards, size in the paint, and momentum from key district victories, the Stallions have positioned themselves as a serious postseason contender — and one of the most complete teams in Florida.
